If they did not care, we would not have male Miqo'te and Female Roe right now when they were both previously gender locked.

I would also like to express my support for both the male Viera and the female Hrothgar. I was very disappointed upon hearing that these races are gender-locked, but I hope that Square Enix will dedicate a lot of time in the future towards designing and adding both genders. Why prioritize "lore" over the wishes of their player base? Sadly, their decision is going to exclude many people from playing their preferred gender on the two new races. Square Enix, please remedy this!

I'm so glad that male Hrothgar is being added for those who like them. And I'm glad that everyone who wanted to be a female Viera finally gets to be one. Since 1.0 surveys, a combined selection for Viera/More beast-like race has won the majority vote. Source (scroll to the bottom).

However, as a player since 1.0 Beta, I haven't been this disappointed since 1.0 release. You may find it stupid, but as a dude who likes playing dudes and has been wanting and voting for Viera for 7 years this is crushing to me. They even acknowledged that the beast-like races won because Viera was included as an option. At the same time they were doing these 1.0 surveys, there was already talk of removing gender locks for Highlander, Roe, and Miqo'te, and as such were well aware of the expectation that Viera would include both sexes when people were voting and asking for them to be added.

At its core, this is a fantasy game. The goal is to live a fantasy. When they hint and tease for the better part of a decade of playing that fantasy and then announce at the last minute that it will only be for people who want to play female characters, people are going to be upset. This debacle lies entirely at the feet of SE.

This was a horrible decision that now casts a huge dark cloud over Shadowbringers for me.

Please, please, reconsider the gender locks on both of these new races. This is a massive misstep in my opinion, and is an echo of big mistakes made in 1.0 that they were supposed to have learned from.

I actually cannot believe the amount of things the dev team have gotten wrong in succession. It's like ever since BLU they've been on a downward spiral of bad decisions.

Genderlocked races are a regression of design from a team that acknowledged how bad of an idea it was in the first place. Absolutely signed.
