Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Makes me wonder if the folks from Square will ever going to address the height for male viera in comparison to their female counterparts and whatnot.

What would you like them to address? To clarify if they are shorter, taller or the same height? Because right now it's just guess work and no one actually knows.

We didn't know exactly what female Viera's height was either until the benchmark released, so I imagine you'd have to wait for that.

Looking at reactions from the outside to Male Viera is pretty funny, especially from the WoW crowd.
When I play FFXIV for too long I sorta forget how negatively people react to male characters that aren't ultra roided out conventionally masculine.
Male Viera are just really off-putting to that '' normie '' audience they're having a mental breakdown over it xD.

They're obviously not to the majority of the FFXIV audience I'd imagine and mainly it's Westerners freaking out since we're so used to getting grumpy dudebros in like all of our media.
The FF series in general has also always been like this.

Edit: The interesting thing tho is how FFXIV is seen as '' the furry MMO '', but WoW is more of a furry game than FFXIV.
The races in FFXIV are far too human to be that, Furries wear full animal suits not just animal ears and tails.
Vulpera, Pandaren and Worgen cater more to that.

I stand with the idea that if you want to play a character for 10000 hours, you need it to be something you like looking at. And whether that’s a super jacked power fantasy or a character you find attractive, more power to ya!

I mean, that seems like the best way to go about it lol The same thing happened around female Viera's release so I guess it was expected.

Whatever height-range they end up being I'm sure people will get over it and enjoy them, or play a different race altogether.

Quite disappointed that it wasn't new hair more wearable hats for Hrothgar and Viera instead. But, now maybe.. in a few years they will get *something* in terms of cosmetic updates since people will swap over for a time until they get tired of having nothing for 2+ years.

The female viera trailer only showcased face option 1 with tweaked eyes and lips. I'm fairly confident it is the same case on the male viera trailer.

I used to love warcraft a lot since I was only 13 years when I got warcraft 3 burning legion back in the day. Blizzard has indeed has gotten so badly over the years that I can no longer able to play basically any of their recent games anymore, thus I gave XIV a shot and I immediately loved the game. I'm still a newb in the game, but I can clearly see the love and dedicated that square had put into their game.

Yeah I grew up playing Blizzard games, D2, SC and WC3 are still three of my favorite games of all time and I played WoW since Vanilla up until Cata where I quit.
Blizzard today isn't the same at all tho, I started having severe doubts about them when they went down the censorship road with Hearthstone cards and the whole '' Free Hong Kong '' situation.
A lot of people handwave away censorship unless it's something they like but the implications of it are always the same particularly when it's done globally, like censorship of art isn't just something I have a great distaste for but I also think it's indicative of corporate meddling to a point that it negatively impacts the creative side and you can clearly see that in design choices made in modern WoW too.

It's just all of the small things that add up over time on top of each other that makes it feel like it's not Blizzard anymore.
Same with WC3R and I am seeing so many of the same warning signs with D2R particularly with the wonky and unrecognizable models that makes me question whether they've even played D2.
Like it doesn't feel pure anymore when I look at it, it looks compromised.


I am really jaded when it comes to this stuff and I always have worries about it with all game companies, but the FFXIV devs haven't disappointed me and I've played on and off since ARR too.
Same with the FF7R I had a lot of worries '' oh god what are they gonna mess up? '', like I see that Tifa is announced and I get stressed out because I've been conditioned to expect bad things.
But it ended up being great and they clearly care.

I am not really a fan of the Western side of SE, particularly what they've done with the Tomb Raider reboot.
But I love the Japanese side of SE, I mean even smaller games like Octopath Traveler it just feels like games that have that magic still.
It doesn't feel like it was designed based on social media trends and with a corporate suit behind the shoulder of every dev.

Even when it comes to the Fanfest vs Blizzcon, the Fanfest just feels more relaxed and the devs are actually having fun too.

So, general points. I was so excited, most of my friends were tagging me or texting, definitely changing ASAP, and then probably swapping between male and female every few months.

The design is pretty much what I expected. A little less beefy than I thought, but fit Yoshi-P's "Elezen bodies with Miqo'te faces" comment. The /dance is so cool, the hair options are pretty nice.

Height-wise. I'm ok. Even if they ARE shorter than the females (which I think they're about equal if not a little bit taller), it's not such a pronounced differenced as Au Ra. The proportions are good.

I hope Hrothgals turn out good, might even swap my Roegadame alt, or make a new one, depending on their look. As for hairstyles... well, I hope that with both genders out, they can give Viera more legacy Hairstyles; though that leaves poor Hroths in the dust. Hopefully with Hrothgals out they can focus on them as a race and separate Heads from hairs.
