Honestly, there's a lot of other updates that need to happen for all current existing races before they considering adding more anyways. Like, there's things that would overall be larger QoL than male Viera and I'd personally rather see those done first.
Oh, yeah. Across the board everything needs an update. It might also be easier to implement male viera/female hrothgar alongside the actual big graphical update, like lauront was talking about.

Honestly not opposed to a wait if we were to get them, I didn’t expect them for 6.0 anyway. My only real gripe is, while I understand you have to with hyping a video game, that I hate PR talk. I would just prefer a concrete answer. And I also fully believe the old races need a little TLC and some updates so I would be happy with that.
6.0 was the last straw for me as far as supporting the addition of male Viera.
This latest interview all but confirms that we're neither getting male Viera nor any sort of character creator update. It's basically a barebones expansion.
The excuse about adding new races is that the more expansions that pass by the more gear they have to refit. Skipping another expansion is a bad sign, using their own reasoning.
The way I see it the missing genders will never be added. It makes no sense to add a new race 2 expansions later. The fact that Viera and Hrothgar have missing genders will have 4 years of it being the standard; I don't see how adding them in 7.0 has a big impact on the game.
It's kinda like world of warcraft, they've been told to change their ways for so long that when they finally did with shadowlands (to an extent) the impact of the change felt late at that point.
If I were you guys I'd focus something else, you're gonna be incredibly disappointed on may 14/15. Those interview statements sound like the ones he gave 2 years ago when he said "I like to think of myself as a contrarian" when they asked him about male Viera. Read into the mood of his answers, walk away while you still can.
It is what it is, unfortunately. We'll see how things play out in May.
What the game truly needs in my opinion is a major competitor. At the moment it doesn't really have one. There's other MMO's out there, of course - and they're not doing terribly but they have wildly different priorities and graphical styles.
Who knows what the future holds, though? Before I played FFXIV, I played WoW. I lost interest in that game but still have fond memories of the period that I played it enthusiastically. I tried out many MMO's and they didn't lure me in until FFXIV managed to captivate me. Yet more and more, the game itself is starting to move away from what I liked about it. The story no longer has the grit and consequences of the days of ARR and HW. There's increasing 'limitations' and any suggestions to do with masculine hairstyles and character customisation options are shot down or branded 'too difficult'. (Not that it stops the developers from making a huge fuss about how the 2B outfit alters the butt of female characters, which I assume isn't too different to how stubble could be implemented for male characters?)
The game's good enough for me to use as a way to pass free time when I'm not playing other games, though I'd be lying if I said a lot of that wasn't just due to the fact that world is locked down at the moment. If and when a proper competitor emerges, I'll be jumping ship - unless the development team remembers that male characters exist and make up roughly half the population of player characters.
I've recently been playing Monster Hunter World and found myself amazed at how much fanservice and customisation options there are. It's a pseudo MMO, too.

So, serious and legit question...this isn't some Gattcha, or a gateway to start a fight and argument. I feel like I need to say that because Im aware most of my conversations always devolve into that for some reason...So I want the purpose of this question clear.
What Grit and 'Consequences' did Arr and HW have? Im reflecting on the expansions and Im not accounting any of this. At least nothing special enough that I feel like its missing.
Maybe its just what you like in story telling? But Im not understanding this theme you found in Arr and HW thats missing from ShB. Sb everyone can agree was the weakest narrative, because its story was so simple and straight foreword, And the story doesn't ramp up till Post; after Liberation. Slowly mind you.
I think I saw before you were disappointed in the events that lead back to the Source, talking about how there was no 'Consequences' . Im just curious what you think should have happened. Cause im confused, yet intrigued.
So even if they have a focus or purpose in the narrative it still wont have an impact? I find that hard to believe.
What if the headgear situation is solved and they make improvements as a whole to CC because of it? Will it still not have an impact?
Back then, actions seemed to hold more consequence in general. The political intrigue didn't always work out in favour of the protagonists, either. The Crystal Braves storyline is an excellent example - it had a slow build up to be sure, though the betrayal at the end of it? That was brutal. Raubahn, a major character, lost an arm. Nanamo was poisoned (in what turned out to be a counterplay by Lord Lolorito) and the Scions were forced to retreat to Ishgard. There, two major companions who spent a lot of time with the Warrior of Light perished. So, serious and legit question...this isn't some Gattcha, or a gateway to start a fight and argument. Since then, pretty much every major death has just been either an antagonist or very minor character. We're told that a particular plot device is super dangerous and risky, only it doesn't actually end up having any dramatic or obvious drawbacks. (I'm looking at you, G'raha Tia).
IX, XII and VII are my favourite Final Fantasy titles because they handled the fanservice for antagonists and protagonists in a more balanced manner. FFXIV just seems...scared, I guess, to do anything bold.
We already know that Lyse is 99.9% safe despite the 'shocking' teaser of someone lunging towards her at the end of the 5.4 MSQ's. She's shown sitting at a table in Ala Mhigo in the 5.5 MSQ preview.
Obviously people are free to disagree, but generally I'm hoping 6.0 is willing to stop with the fake deaths. I swear, if Y'shtola 'dies' again only to come back minutes later...
