Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Graha tia is a bad example to explain why cat ears are just "cute" for some ppl, because the story shows all his cute side and sensible side. He's litterally "cute catboy" now, his design shows that. His ears are here to show his emotions all the time.

But it's true that miqote show more emotions than almost any other race (miqote are not cat-human btw, more feline-human just like hrothgar are not just lions). That doesnt mean they are more sensible it's just easier to see.

Male au ra will be naturally more mysterious, because it's harder to show emotions as much as miqote wihtout the same tools. They horns won't move. Same for humans etc.

Ppl tend to see emotions as weakness, even more for men. So i kind of understand why some ppl will think male miqo are cuter. Even if i dont agree.

But if you think fluffly ears are feminine because it's fluffy... It's just ears with fur on it, and it's not like the male viera will put new ears just to look cute, it's just there. Comparing miqo and viera to human wearing cat ears/bunny ears type is the wrong abroach. They are not humans even if they are very close to it, that's the goal.

No, miqo'te males are catboys, and female miqo'te are catgirls. Hrothgar are more like lions, there is quite a bit of difference between the two. Male miqo'te cat ears are meant to be cute, I've seen their emotes. Like I get it - for people who play male miqo'te - but let's be real here.

Most importantly, this is the largest forum post of FFXIV's entire history, so that's something to be proud of accomplishing.

I want them to know how passionately I want this.

Everyone else wants to do the same.

If we stopped posting here, they'd assume we stopped caring and want other things.

The truth is, we still want it. And even if it doesn't make it into this game (pandemic considerations and all), they will continue to know we have been asking for over two years.

Most importantly, this is the largest forum post of FFXIV's entire history, so that's something to be proud of accomplishing.

You mean the largest FFXIV echo chamber in the entire history of FFXIV? :P That aside, this is a glorified chat thread with like minded people, that is littered with the same arguments, senseless bumping, and loads of fanart. Not sure what was accomplished, but if you want to be proud of that cool.

On the other hand, there seems to be a handful of players who are terrified of the idea of male viera being added to the game and feel compelled to try and downplay their potential inclusion at every possible turn. I wouldn't consider this thread to be an echo chamber so much as it having grown quieter over time as a direct result of people deliberately coming in here to cause drama.

We already know from other features that have been implemented that the development team will listen to persistent suggestions even when the initial answer is close to a no. I don't see the missing genders being any different, personally.

If they add them, great. If not, I'll continue to push anyway.

Blizzard were highly averse to adding new customisation options and yet after years of pressure from the World of Warcraft community they did just that - not once but twice.

I'm sure the fact that this is one of the largest threads on the forum that has been going for 2 years now hasn't passed by their notice.

But I do agree, it's important to make sure they know we haven't relented on this desire.

The support is still going but I don't think there was any indication that they would actually do it.

It would be nice if viera had more than like 3 popular hair styles and could wear some hats. I thought they actually did say they would include more hair styles with updates and try to figure something out for the hats. Even the showcase art only showed one of the standard styles.

So maybe they will bring male viera to the moon but they're keeping it super secret, and maybe they will only have 2 hairstyles and can only wear monocles. Anything is possible at this stage.

Now you have me picturing a Viera Hildebrand! This would be awesome!

It's a pretty big chat and some individuals are super active in it. I don't think it's bad to be proud of that, like maybe some people have hundreds of posts in this thread. It's an achievement for certain.

More character options for greater range of expression is everything though. Otherwise it's like well be careful of what you wish for, right?

I'd say it repeats the same arguments because every once in a while someone will come in and go: "I don't want them to be added because Lore!" and then a bunch of people will debunk the lore argument AGAIN; or "No male Viera because they're female only!" Which... technically accurate, but a lot of people will jump up because it's also technically INaccurate, especially with the concept art in HW.
"Yoshi-P already said no!" gets turned down pretty fast because he didn't. He didn't say yes, but didn't close the door on it either, unlike playable children.
"They should be introduced in a Matsuno game!" It's... an opinion, and as such is a valid opinion, but given that Matsuno gave his blessing, meh.
"No male Viera because... too feminine!" Which... just... ugh... I'm not having THAT one again.

Except...You cant say No male Viera is technically inaccurate because of HW concept art. That has no baring on if Male Viera were gonna be put into the game. Cause concept art especially in early stages dont mean anything. Sure you can say they were spitballing the idea and toyed with it...but as shown, they weren't put into the game. Females alone weren't put in until Shadowbringers...
That art also featured Dragonoid people; the Au-Ra, and then they got changed into what they are now. Concept art in the early stages is pretty much just doodling and exploring, and is always subject to change and revision.
...Like We could have had playable Lupin too -huff- But nah they are just NPCs in Stormblood...

So using old concept art just doesn't really work as an argument really.

Honestly never understood this, because similar people have problems with cat boys but not cat girls. Honestly it's just toxic masculinity from the FPS dudebros. If they want to play a Hrothgar, that's okay. It's encouraged. If you like playing a creature with a horn, sweet, play Au Ra. If you appreciate a more effeminate male (which does come up quite often in Japanese culture, mind you) play Miqo'te or a less defined Elezen. And if you love the design of the Viera and would prefer playing a male over female, where's the harm?
