Just from personal experience Hrothgar are very rare. They only seem somewhat popular in packed cities because they stick out among all the humans. Crunch the data over a month from all the dungeons/raids you've played daily and you'll notice how few Hrothgars you'll encounter. Mind you this is true of Roegadyn and Elezen as well; Hrothgar is somewhere near the least popular.

I also recall something about Yoshida telling the dev team to not bother making separate hair styles for Hrothgar; he made that decision for them himself. I'm guessing he made that decision based on how little time they had before the expansion. As we all know they were still having trouble with them in the japan fanfest in March and their faces went through another change around May. They bit off more than they could chew trying to make an animal race.

More often than not, when I'm actually playing as one, I'm usually the only one in any piece of content, including 8 man raids and 24 man ones. In Limsa I'm probably one of only two in the entire place. They are very rare, but I do think that their truly limited status is why. Once they get some more love I might switch back, but for now I switched back to trusty Au Ra.

Regarding race popularity, I think there's a site that measures that? It's called FFXIV Census. IDK how reliable it is, but hrothgar are much lower than viera in popularity. I also hardly ever see them. Which is kind of sad, since I like them so much!

I hope we get male viera and female hrothgar. That might encourage people to make more of them.

They confirmed we will (almost certainly) never get a new race for this particular game, and I'd rather them add the missing genders, fix female viera and male hrotgar and add more customization overall than a new race

Adding the missing* genders is the equivalent of adding a new race though.

I imagine Male Viera looking something like Ricardo Milos shape and base race clothing wise, save for the bandana. While facial features wise I can see them resembling their female counterparts in some ways, though mixed together with FFXIII Snow Viller's facial features and various hairstyles.

Hm, in fact. Snow Villers body wise as a whole would make for great use being redesigned for male Viera! Maybe, make the body just a tad bit leaner it'd be perfect!
