I doubt a sandbox mmo will ever be a mainstream success but still I wouñd not mind a sandbox MMO. From older gamers it seems a lot of their interesting tales happened within sandbox style mmos. Being able to try that at least once with a fresh propulsr IP even if it would be short lived would be interesting to me.

Granted, I enjoy mske your own fun type games.
"Make your own fun" is a great excuse companies like to use to release an unfinished product/empty game. Again, yes, in theory they sound great. In practice, not so much. A sandbox game can be popular, such as Rust, but there are many many issues therein. Players ruin the experience for others, time and time again. Personally, I cannot stand some of the idiotic creations that flood game worlds, still it isn't to say there is potential for awesome creativity - this creativity will just be subsequently destroyed by some random player while you are asleep. I don't even know what you are envisioning a "true" sandbox game other than like the examples given above Albion online - which apparently has some big issues I have read about. Star Wars Galaxies sure, but that game had some horrendous features as well, it would definitely be niche, and would only invite a hardcore audience - meaning your only hope for something of the like would be from an indie development studio. The problem with indies, is they just don't have the budget, or manpower, to become the best of what they could be. It is unfortunate, but it is how it is.

Yeah, I had fun with Rust, Ark, dayz and sure make your own fun is an excuse companies use. Though from what I csn tell from the stories from gamers that played ffxi or swg at the height there experience differed greatly from whst one would get from rust, ark, or dayz. Sure it is a lofty dream but that is joy of dreams at times. I know it will never be a thing, but still something that would be nice to experience.

Granted I propably am one of those players that as you said ruin yhe experience for others. Though talking to other people that played games like SWG what my view as a true sandbox is not the same as what a sandbox was back when swg was popular. Sure it may have problems, and far from perfect but I do hope more companies take a risk and tske elements from a sandbox.

Though in truth what I know as a sandbox differs greatly from what I can tell from those that played classic sandbox mmos in tje past. That is the experience I one day hope to experience.

In short do not get me wrong I know it will propably never happen, just a desire of mine that is all. Maybe I will give Albion a try, I have heard of it, but never been a fan of that top down style of gameplay.

Comparing Rust/Ark to Ultima Online/SwG is like comparing Apex Legends to Overwatch. A few similarities here and there, but that's about it.

Still, I doubt SE will release a sandbox MMO. But to be honest, I even doubt SE will risk releasing another FF MMO.

How has no one talked about the Unlucky Rabbit minion followed by the rabbit costume we got during Hatching tide? You know square-enix loves using costumes and references to hint at things; this is just them saying "sorry male rabbit, trix are for kids; but here you go you can have a costume if you want to be a male viera."

I might be incorrect of course considering we got Hrothgar even though we got that wolf costume during Stormblood.

But to me the clue is in that Unlucky rabbit minion, they're basically saying "sorry male viera, you got caught in development hell."
Honestly the more I see the devs struggle the less faith I have in them doing anything but the basics, in terms of content.

Lol, its just a Bunny Outfit. Its not a Special Hint at anything. Not like the game game had it before right? So it was a new Fresh idea of a Festive Glamour to give to the players This Year.
The Werewolf costume wasnt a hint at anything either, just a new Glamour idea.

If the rabbit costume was a hint then that must also mean we are getting frog people!

I don't now....you're talking about the same producer that wears a spiderman shirt to give us a hint at samurai or a bugs bunny shirt to hint at Viera. There's precedence to the madness.

I don't think there's any hidden messages in regards to the missing genders. The backlash in response to the lack of male viera and female hrothgar proved to be immense and I doubt the development team would want to risk any further bad press by effectively gas-lighting the community.

They've already released a statement that makes it clear that they might be added at some point in the future but that they also may not be added. That's enough for now, since if they are going to be added it isn't likely to be until 6.0 at the earliest because additional playable races are an excellent selling point for a new expansion. I don't think they'll be locked behind 6.0 itself - especially with female viera and male hrothgar being tied to 5.0. It's more a matter the missing genders will play a large part in 6.0's marketing efforts if they are added at that point.

We're at a crossroads with the game in general at this point, though. The game is aging and although it isn't likely to go anywhere anytime soon adding the missing genders is one of the main things that it can do to generate fresh hype and lure back disillusioned players.

I agree with the aging part. The fresh and shiny factor by nature is going to wear off if they just present 2 new jobs and some new locations. I really don't think they can get away with what they got away with with Stormblood where the fanfests and the premise of the next expansion was basically sam, rdm and some new areas.

World of Warcraft's premise in their next expansion is system wide changes to character creator and whole bunch of other system changes and additions; that's what sells expansions. I'd really hate to see interest go down with the next expansion; adding the missing genders is that perfect ingredient to make the next expansion seem full of great new things.
As for your point about the gas lighting, yeah, but why add an "unlucky bunny" minion and then a bunny costume? It just seems really ominous, like a well prepared joke that Yoshida will use at fanfest when people say "we want male viera" he'll just go "but you can be male viera right now.....with the Rabbit costume we gave you."

I don't know, looking at the female Viera and male Hrothgar hair situation (forget helmets and hats); just the hair situation alone makes me think this dev team is running at barebones capacity until FFVII Remake is complete.

Your stretching pretty hard mate, its just a Rabbit. If it was truly a 'hint' they would give it more obvious flavor text to create widespread conversation.
But Ill give you some leeway and your conspiracy the Benefit of the doubt and remember this Post IF it happens.
