I don't know what kinds of eyes you have but male and female Viera are visually distinct. I would never, for the life of me mistake a male Viera with a female Viera. As a man I sure as hell wouldn't make that mistake.I actually kind of love how they came out, and even more if they are similar height.
I had a headcanon that the reason people hadn't seen a male viera was because they only thought they hadn't seen one. The models have a similar build (athletic, lithe, with soft/smooth faces). It would fit my theory so well if they were a similar height as well, but doesn't hinge on it. Here all along, but people just misidentified them.

That's my thought on it as well. Height doesn't really come into it, but they could easily be mistaken for women, at least in passing - and may even want to maintain that misconception for some reason.I had a headcanon that the reason people hadn't seen a male viera was because they only thought they hadn't seen one. Yes, I just thought it would make it more plausible in comparison to some of the other theories. By "similar" I do mean around the same height if not slightly taller or shorter. To be clear, because some people meant like Roe height and monstrous or female au ra height when using tall/short.
edit:
That want to keep androgynous might be a thing to play around with, too. For a long time (at least in the Ivalice canon) male Viera were said to be savage and feral. Can't imagine you'd get a warm reception if people had that prejudice in the back of their mind.
Meanwile me, a lean guy irl reading all of this :

Those hips are anything but slender, imho. The body doesn't have the upside down triangle proportions of male au ra, which gives them a much more feminine frame. Even male miqote have a broader chest.
Honest question, do you have eye problems?
1. Triangle shape would make you more feminine than not. That's one of the problems with male Au ra.
2. A somewhat slim torso ≠ female; they would need wide hips like females for that to be a correct statement.
I don't know what men live near you but male Viera could not pass as a female where I live.

Well don't you just enjoy gender essentialism. No, actually, hips aren't always slim on men and wide on women. It's a physical ideal for beauty standards, which is why it's favored in media, but it's just not actually the reality of human bodies. The goalpost for what is considered wide or not also shifts wildly from culture to culture. Also, how would an inverted triangle shape be feminine if, by your logic, wide hips are needed to be feminine? Make it make sense.Honest question, do you have eye problems?

I don't know what men you see in real life but I can spot a man/woman 10 miles away just from their hips. Male Viera doesn't have female hips.
I could line up several of the women in my life, self included, and see our body type in the models shown. Sans breasts, I know a couple of guys who have the more hourglass frames of the females.
As a man with wider hips I can definitely say my body doesn’t look feminine just because I have wide hips. There is a lot of diversity with body proportions. I don’t see any issues with the frames and apparent height of the male Viera.
