    Noble's Quarter Housing

Small's outnumber Mediums by a large margin, and there are less than a handful of Larges. The more populated a server, the harder it is to get an L, especially with the timer not being on since October for auto demolish.

Is the spaghetti code this game runs on too garbled to withstand a Ward+subdivision of majority M's and about five L's? Perhaps a tiny bit of S's sprinkled in ideal locations like the beach houses in Mist. There's an NPC blocking off a location in Gridania that interested me because as far as I know, nothing- not even a cutscene exists beyond that area where nobles live that the guard stops you from getting into. Ul'dah nobles have to live somewhere too and surely there's a privateer sitting pretty in La Noscea.

Now, I expect the argument of "just move if you want it so bad." However, even on low population worlds, Larges are still easily taken up- and again. No auto-demolish in months so they're just going to sit there.

This could be a separate ward from the main housing areas to represent exclusivity. Maybe add on a threshold for being able to purchase. In Shirogane's case, it's having access to Shiro in the first place. I would think a certain point of MSQ progression as a reasonable recognition of the WoL's efforts given how much gil and gear we've amassed since ARR.

That's an interesting idea. It would dovetail nicely with some of the more exotic housing ideas I've seen floating around like airships and the like. I imagine to make such a thing truly exclusive it would need to have much more stringent requirements than merely progression in MSQ, but it could be an interesting challenge to unlock these rare and exclusive places.

Maybe a quest chain or something where you choose the exclusive area you unlock and you can only have one open at a time or something? But you can still go visit your friends in the others.

Unpopular opinion, but it could be something mogstation related. Not exactly something I would want to see, but as we know, money does tend to make ideas seem more favorable to a business.

It would be nice to see more/different wards in general, noble housing or not, just to mix things up. Also just housing in more areas. Idyllshire for example. The housing there could be very interesting with all the Sharlyan themes.

Also, just up-gradable interiors already. Even if it's a small plot, if I have the gil, let me make the interior as big as a mansion (just a different layout based on the plot size. Mix it up, add variety).

I've been wondering about the Noble district in Gridania for a long time. When you do the Haukke Manor quest you go there to speak to Lady Amandine's servant but the guards won't let you inside. I figured this is something you unlock at a higher level but that never happened. Considering our WoL status, it irks me when some guard tells me I can't go somewhere because it's only for special people. Who's more special than WoL?

There's also a gate in Lavender Beds that doesn't lead anywhere (it's locked). The map just ends there. I'm wondering why they just put a random gate at the end of the map. That has to lead somewhere, right?

There's also a gate to nothing in Goblet. The old gate to nothing in Mist now has the apartments. And I don't think Shirogane has a gate to nothing. It is odd that they exist in Lav Beds and Goblet though. I've often wondered about them.

Community with standard size plots so you can choose and upgrade w/o the pain of moving.

If they plan to do Ishgard and it isn't instanced (as some speculate it'd be a good time to test the waters of such housing), I'd love for such a thing in Ishgard. With how the city appears to be in 'tiers' and actual distance between the Pillars and Brume is questionable, perhaps other tiers could open and it's mostly mediums and larges. Perhaps as someone else said, it'd almost be an invert of the current ward set up--Mediums take up most of the space, with plentiful larges, and the very few smalls that may have unique yards (think of the small bridged 'islands' in the Lav beds).

I think that Ishgard housing could be a step towards instanced housing. Aion has a mixed system and is just as old as XIV.

Every player at lv 18(?) gets to do a quest that gives them a free apartment about the same size as those in XIV. There is also a massive singular open housing area with some houses sprinkled in odd locations in some zones. Those are not instanced, bid upon, and require rent.

For Ishgard, given the architecture, I could see this as the testing grounds for something instanced for a similar mixed system. There is a lot that could be done with Ishgard, and heck, even a try at the Noble/General housing.

The gated off areas you speak of are remnants of 1.0 and the intended housing system at that time. They moved it, for whatever reason outside the cities. Would be nice to see it come back as a form of instanced housing.
