    Split crafting/gathering jobs or not?

I have a friend that I play with almost exclusively. We decided to level the crafting/gathering jobs along with our adventurers.

We also decided to split the jobs, e.g. one taking goldsmith, the other taking armorer, etc.

But in talking to another FC member, she seemed to think that maybe we would have problems with this later on and that we really should each do all the jobs.

What do you all think? Thanks.

do everything. there's no point in splitting anything. there is literally no advantage to what you're thinking there. =p

The best place to do splitting of duties is really only with the stuff that's strictly limited on a single character.

Desynthesis: You can only master 3 desynthesis craft skills. This is an excellent opportunity to split roles amongst friends. It takes great investment to level them, and it's a great hurdle if you ever decide to switch which ones you want leveled. Just make sure no one gets stuck with 3 very difficult-to-level and/or less useful skills though. I can elaborate on that, if you want.

Specialist Crafts: You can only specialize in 3 crafts (signified by a "soul of the crafter" for that particular DoH; it goes in the job stone slot). You could decide who should specialize in what. These days, however, specializations are not very important, and it's also trivial to switch between them.

When it comes to simply leveling jobs, I would encourage you and your friends to level any and all DoH/L skills with little regard for one another. There is little benefit to splitting duties. There is one notable exception, however... While you're leveling, you could have one person working on DoL classes, and providing materials for someone leveling DoH classes. This can be difficult to pull off for any number of reasons (lack of communication, one person demanding things from the other, different playtimes/dedication, someone quitting the game), but it can also be fun and rewarding if you can pull it off.

Arguably, you could probably get away with splitting gathering duty. There's not really a whole lot of crossover between BTN and MIN. FSH, eh, you may as well both do, simply due to the rng of catching what you need.

Also, re: the desynthesis point above, while you may only be able to max out 3, it could also be argued that you don't really need to max any of them. While I'm not at end game, to my knowledge, there hasn't really been anything significant added to the desynth game in quite a while. Devs are always raising the cap, so at this point, even if you spread your desynth points across everything, you'd probably still be in a position to get anything you might need out of it.

Other than that, I'd say there's more benefit to doing all crafters rather than splitting them. Kinda a case of if you're going to do some, may as well do all. You've certainly got a fun idea, trying to split the work load and all. But you'd also each be handicapping yourselves by missing out on cross class skills.

You'll both want access to cross-class skills, but don't need to get all the way to 70 for that, as the highest level cross-class skills are at 54 (and most of those seem less important than the level 50 ones). So I'd recommend taking all eight DoH to either 50 or 54, and then you could divide up which ones you take the rest of the way to 70.
