Give me a reason for alts...

Fellow altoholic here (and masochist)...o/...You'll never get bored in this game that's for sure. Oh and if you like to RP or play with players on different servers that's cool too. Getting though the post 2.0 slog is a pita though so good luck with that.

Nah probably gonna keep them all on the same server. And yes those quests are not fun a second time around. ._.

Fellow altoholic, too! I do it for housing (I buy new rooms in my FC house), glamour, and free storage. Why pay for the retainer when I can just make another character, race through the MSQ, and get my 2 new retainers that way!

Ah I already pay for three extra retainers atm; I guess that means any alts I make will have the extras too?

My main reason is to be able to play the other races, so I don't suffer the fantasia syndrome and change every other month or something.

Yeah I was worried I might keep buying fantasia if I get bored.

Funny enough... I do have multiple alts which most I've had since early ARR. I have run into players on my main in endgame content with names that were 1 character different from 1 of my alts and it just makes me snicker a bit when I see it considering the names as far as I know aren't seen in any type of movie, TV show, Anime, or manga. I literally just used my actual family name for my characters out of laziness. :P

I could not give you any, to be honest. I'm in third year of medical school, time is extremely limited, and so I have to weigh my options:
On the one hand, I can play as another race and/or start in a different city with a different class, thereby giving me a bit of a fresh experience.
On the other hand, I got... literally all content ahead of me, again. This last point tips the scale far too much into the direction of "nope, won't bother" in my case. That "fresh" feeling of playing as a different race, class, and starting city just doesn't last long enough for it to be a good time investment.

Of course, that's me. If you are the kind of person who'd find it enjoyable to go through the story again, by all means, do so, though I suppose you could also wait for that New Game+ feature they talked about a while back.

I have one alt purely so I have a character on the same server as A Stage Reborn and I can see their plays.

I have 7 alts that I powerleveled on my main's server to 50 and got to second lieutenant in a grand company so they could get all purchase a room in my Free Company. I use them all for roleplay, the bard has a music room/stage where she performs, the warrior has an office done all out in Maelstrom style as he takes his duties in the Grand Company very seriously, my summoner lala is very into writing and book collecting so she has a grand library, the roe paladin enjoys her retirement in a lush, green solarium, the gambling room, bar, and sauna are all still under construction and the final room is a catchall storage room for seasonal decorations. My main feeds them all money and items and it's turned a small house into a really big construction project.

So taking advantage of extra rooms is my reason for having alts.

i have 4 diff chars y because of races i want and I'm not spending 300 dollars plus 2 change my race whenever i want to be some other race

Only viable reason for alts is to have a character on a different server, but now that’s changed to data center.
Which is why I only have the one alt, one for Chaos, one for Light.
Apart from that... it's roleplay purposes only.

You could have used one to reply the story if you wanted that, but now we're getting New Game Plus for that.

I have two alts: the first because I wanted to recreate my old character from FFXI, and the second because I was messing around with the character creator and liked what I did enough to put her into the world. I don't roleplay, I'm not much of a crafter/gatherer--there is no more justification for my alts other than "because I wanted to."

I keep my first alt caught up with the MSQ, but I'm not concerned with maxing out everything. I've split my job leveling between both characters, so there isn't any overlap between tasks like tomestone grinding (i.e. I'm not trying to gear up the same job twice). While there might be a little more work involved, every dungeon, trial, and raid will be tackled multiple times whether I have one character or eight.

It costs you nothing but time to make an alt, so you just have to figure out what your time is worth.

edit: It has also been interesting to see how other players interact with characters of differing races. I was laughing with my company yesterday about how many random head pats I get as a Lala.

Main reason I have alts, currently 5 other characters, is for when I am bored on my main. Or if I want to play on a different server and races/gender (even though 4/6 charas are miqos and 1 girl, other 2 are midlanders) reasons as well as different looks/names.

Sometimes I just find it enjoyable to play them.

I currently play my main plus two alts very regularly. I have four alts altogether.

I love the story so I enjoy experiencing it again and again. I don't have the heart to fantasia my main but I can enjoy being a different race on my alts. The alts have different main classes and they're in different grand companies so my journey with them is a bit different each time, which results in them having different glams too. My fc has recently gotten very interested in rp so I have multiple characters whose personal stories I get to create and act out.

I find my alts to be a nice change of scenery. Especially now when I'm at the stage in which I have completed almost everything I really wanted to do on my main.
