Pentamelding. Crafted crafting gear can be overmelded, so that's how you get the additional stats. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...10tqrI/preview This is a guide folks have been using that gives various melds and setups, with what food and tea you'll need.

Food buffs are also a good way to get it higher and also become required for some macros to be 100% HQ. Though I wish it wasn't mandatory for pentamelding and food buffs for high end crafting. (considering just getting there can be a chore without road to 60) Just sucks spending so much effort and blowing up materia and this late into an expansion I'm wondering if it's even worth the effort.

To macro level 70 4-star recipes from NQ ingredients you're going to need maximum pentamelds, HQ matcha tea buff, and HQ cunning craftsman's tea. Good news is materia prices are lower in price right now. When I did it full melds for all my gears was about 40 million gil worth of materia.

I have three overmelds in my crafter gear but I used decreasing materia tiers, typically V, IV and II. This helps keep the number of attempts required at manageable levels since each overmeld has an around 15% chance to succeed. While I can't quite macro-craft HQ Lv70 4-star from NQ materials, I can reliably HQ-craft manually (barring completely horrible RNG luck). My stats without any buffs are 1678 craftsmanship and 1628 control.

Also, doing your weekly crafting turnins to Adkiragh, Kurenai, M'naago, Zhloe (whoever has a bonus) is also a good way to get materia (300 red for Vs and 500 yellow for VIs). I'm stocking up on command VIs since I'm guessing that we'll be wanting them to replace the command Vs we're currently using so many of. Unless they significantly rework crafting, which I don't expect.

I asked myself the same question back in HW and ultimately told myself that it wasn't worth the time and gil. But I think this is going to based on the individual, their own crafting needs and crafting goals. It is still quite possible to HQ craft if you need food to meet the requirements, but it's just going to require more work obtaining HQ mats to help out, manually crafting the items, and still needing RNG assistance. For me personally, that is the hard work I would rather do since I prefer to free-craft anyway and avoid macros. I am far too impatient, and far too easily roused to deal with all the meld fails.
