I can only wholeheartedly agree with this. While leveling the 3 healing classes I had to deal with absolutely wet-paper-like tanks donning full i260 gear in Doma Castle/Castrum Albania wondering why they almost got one-shot by bosses' tankbusters.

Not to mention the mass pulls with almost little to no cooldown and the classic 'healer, are you healing?'. Damn right I am, but when my HP exceeds yours, we definitely have a problem.

I had a tank in the Royal Menagerie with i280 gear and maybe a couple i300. The other tank didn't want to tank. As an AST, I basically tanked Shinryu more than both of them together. So please, SE, add a minimal ilvl requirement, because it is not only stressful as hell to heal these people, but the dungeons are run at snail pace, which usually I wouldn't completely mind, but being so undergeared simply denotes laziness.

I shudder every time I see a mentor in NN tell to a sprout 'oh a full shire can bring you from 60 to 70 easily'.

Royal Menagerie actually does have a min ilvl requirement, and it's set at i280, so the tank met the minimum requirements; this sounds more like Shinryu being harder than a lot of people expect (especially for newcomers) and some tank incompetence rather than gear issues. The other story trials (Pool of Tribute, Emanation, etc.) should definitely have min ilvl requirements, though. And the rest of your points are spot on.

You're absolutely right! I forgot that Shinryu does have the requirement, being a level 70 trial.
The unfortunate thing was that the tank probably BARELY reached it and the i280 gear made him horribly squishy and aggro-less most of the time ; ;

That gear level seems normal for first-timers going in there. Also, I'm pretty sure there isn't an ilvl sync for Shinryu, so a new tank will definitely have to work harder if the majority of the party is at 370+. Most of the time I end up in there, I typically have more HP as a healer (due to 380/390 gear) than a tank if they're new. I feel like SE should have put a 350 or so sync on it just to keep it from getting too far out of control. As long as they can get the mechanics figured out it almost always goes well, even if some random over-geared players end up taking some hits occasionally. As far as the other tank, that was definitely a lazy/bad one. They should have stepped up and at least tried to hold top aggro so only one DPS or healer would get hit if the other tank couldn't keep up.

In this case the new tank should go tank stance and use only emnity combo's. They have no need to do otherwise when the party is full of 370+'s and has dps in buckets. This even makes the new tanks life easier, they're more durable and can just 1, 2, 3 to victory.


Tanks have the tools to generate absolutely ridiculous amounts of emnity if they want to.
