    Monk Woes

I recently switched from samurai to try my hand at monk. There are just too many samurai out there.

My ilvl is 392 using a 390 tome weapon. I have a good opener giving me 7k + dps, but during my rotation - my dps starts dropping considerably.

I keep my gl up and hit my positionals but I just can't squeeze the damage out.

Any suggestions? I just want to make those samurai envious of monks.

    Could you provide some logs?

A log or two would definitely help to see how you can improve... 7k seems low for the opener too. I'm a higher item level, but my opener can get up to 14k

Also with how Riddle of Fire and Tornado Kick work into the rotation, monk is a bit more bursty than it was before. You'll have high peaks followed by lows then a little bit of a level off before another peak. Also, looking at your gear on your character page, you might need to switch up a couple pieces. The chest piece from Orbornne Monastery, despite being a lower item level, is actually better than the 400 tomestone chest armor. Also monk as a job does really well with skill speed, so you might want to change out some of your determination melds for skill speed instead.

Monk, more than any other DPS job, gets a lot of damage from its auto attacks, and auto attack damage is directly tied to skill speed. Additionally, more skill speed means less time between weapon skills, meaning more chances for a critical hit. I'm assuming you don't do Omega savage, so based off what you could get, here's an idea of good gear for monk that omits savage, or at least this is what I would use in your situation: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/18UU1
