    Moogle's Poms?

What exactly is a moogle's pom?

I know they're meant to be like a pom pom and as such are a ball of fluff, but they really don't look fluffy at all. They look more smooth and floaty, like a balloon? Also they appear to glow.

Is there anything that influences the colour of the pom? The ones in the churning mists are all pink, while the ones from Twelveswood are all colours (though mostly orange). I read somewhere that it changes colour depending on mood but I haven't been able to find any evidence of this.

Also I noticed that the moogles tend to say things like 'my pom aches thinking about this' and I know it's meant to be more for comedy but is the pom like, and actual organ? O_O

I have many questions sorry haha.

Poms are a very special organ used for storing kupo, and the color and glow are determined by the quality and quantity of absorbed kupo. As for what kupo is used for, only the Moogles know for sure.

(In all seriousness I have no idea, but it's fun to speculate.)

As far as I know none of your questions have got any answers in the game. So unless there is something in the Lorebooks, all we can say about it is "We do not know."

Perhaps the poms are vital to the Moogles' ability to be unseen when they don't want to be? At least in the context of FFXIV's lore, anyway. They may even act as a sort of sensory apparatus, much like an antenna, to detect the presence of nearby intruders. The world may never know the vast secrets of Moogle biology...

Apparently is IS a sensory organ of some sort, or at least it can feel pain. Since in one moogle quest you can threaten to squeeze a moogle's pom and they freak out and go "No! Please don't squeeze my pom!"

You could ask in the developer thread for questions to the main scenario and lore writer Banri Oda, if you haven't already? Maybe you get an answer when they go through the questions in the next LIVE letter?

This isn't really based on anything, but I think the pom is like the lekku of twi'lek in Star Wars, as in, contains the brain. While I was doing moogle repeatables, I came across one of the moogles saying their pom was aching similar to one would say they have a headache. But yeah, just my speculation.

If I had to guess I'd say it's a source of bioluminescent light, a lure akin to anglerfish, or a way to attract a mate not dissimilar to bird plumage (though present on males and females alike). Flashy bits tend to be for attracting mates or warning other animals of danger, and well, moogles aren't all that threatening on average...

It's never been explained in-universe and honestly was probably just included in their design as a way to make them cuter... and has been present in every iteration of moogle in the franchise, so it would have to be on XIV's regardless of whether there's a lore explanation for them or not.

Decided to impulse roll on Okita's banner and my Devil's Luck kicked in, getting me Ozymandias!

Kept rolling with the leftovers and got a gold Saber... but it was just a third Mordred. :'(

Objection! The FFIII Moogles in their Famicom incarnation (technically an unused asset from FFII) didn't have poms simply because of palette and resolution limitations, which were carried into their second appearance in FFV. Pomless Moogles abominations Mogs also appear in FFVII (and Crisis Core), and FFVIII. (Though MiniMog actually manages to rock the look better than one would expect.)
