Question Concerning Steam Log In Changes

This is the only place I could think to ask, so here it goes.

According to the statement issued 3/8/19, SE stated they plan to implement a "restricted log in check process" for steam users. And that steam users must use the launcher from the Steam app, or the launcher wont run.

My question is this, if there is a log in checks are being made, what happens if steam crashes/goes down/etc , which it has in the past, will we still be able to log in to FFXIV if we are forced to use Steam in "offline mode" during such instances? Or is everything fine just so long as we log in using steam launcher. I typically use desktop shortcut with steam logged into, so i am also hoping that doing that will still work too? But what really concerns me most, is that we have a documented instance of someone's pc not running the game on more than 2 cores when launching from steam app.

And, If it turns out that they are only doing this to monitor/verify who actually has purchased the upcoming expansion, then why not be upfront about it?

Sorry, but I just find this whole "start launcher from Steam app only" thing kind of suspect, as I cannot even start the launcher without being logged into steam first anyway.

    UPDATE:

I just found out that Steam uses authentication servers and that ESO had also switched to this, and as a result, when the Steam Authentication Servers went offline, players could not log in for 4 weeks...so thanks SE and Steam.

So, SE, are we going to get time refunded to account running thru Steam if we can't log in due to Steam Authentication Servers going offline in the future???

Lastly, I also play the same account on my PS4, will that be affected because it is the same service account?

If I had known that this was going to be an issue one day, or that SE Store sold FFXIV as a non steam game, I wouldn't have bought the game from Steam in the first place. All I can do is hope and pray that this won't be the same mess ESO had.

As a result, I am very hesitant to sub for more than a month at a time now.
