It acts as a table top, so yeah - only items that can be placed on 'table' like surfaces can go on it. Shrug.
Lame lol so ya pointless they rlly need to add a different type for furnishment called floor or / 3dimsional or something for everything that honestly should get items on it like bed and plushys
the only way to place stuff what isnt tabletop on top of a loft is by using glitches, and by the looks of who did win the housing decoration contest(a good portion of the winners did winned whit houses decorated whit glitches) some time ago, seems like SE not gonna punish players for using glitches for housing decoration
Been attempted to use the glitch but i can never get it to work..the only way to place stuff what isnt tabletop on top of a loft is by using glitches, and by the looks of who did win the housing decoration contest(a good portion of the winners did winned whit houses decorated whit glitches) some time ago, seems like SE not gonna punish players for using glitches for housing decoration
Place an oriental table directly underneath the item you're trying to float, then quickly cancel out.
Then place a round stage underneath, again quickly cancel out.
Then move a blank partition near the item in question and slowly raise the item further using the loft itself.
Items you're attempting to float this way have to placed from your inventory, not storage.
You could start with the blank partition/loft in theory, but I find oriental table more reliable and gets you some good distance from the floor to get going with.
Bare in mind that some items need to be floated to a minimum height otherwise they'll snap back to the floor.
After floating it to the desired height you'll also need to rotate it, not sure why but if you don't it'll fall back to the floor after you leave your house. You can just spin it 360 degrees if you want, but it needs spinning.
Some items also won't float on to the oriental table, although that's only a small minority of stuff.
Hope this proves helpful.
Enjoy this nice picture of my 'floating' bed

Time for X,Y,Z positioning! (I doubt they would gut their current system for that)
They should just make everything into a tabletop item, or just remove placing restrictions entirely - which would solve so many issues.
There are glitches you can use to levitate items but I find them too tedious to get things into position for me to use, so I just go with what the game normally allows.
It sucks you can't put a bed or even a futon on them normally. Currently I made a loft that is my character's 'me time' space. I put a canvas up there with some paint items, a triple triad thing, some books etc. I couldn't make it a proper bedroom loft but I was able to do soemthing with it. I hope they expand upon lofts in the future.
But first, finish adding the other races to mannequins! And highlander/midalnders better get separate options!
