Unfortunately despite multiple questions being asked in the Live Letter thread, it appears none of them were answers on the Live Letter.

When I started as a Steam account in 2.0 there was no indication that I would be locked into only buying (and now only playing) from Steam forever (it was before Heavensward and the preorder debacle that opened my eyes to this problem.) I've always actually played through the stand-alone client because for some reason Steam running in the background always uses up my resources and slows my computer down. I only ever opened Steam when I had to buy the newest expansion each time.
Honestly, I wish there was an extra column on the account page that would allow me to re-buy the normal PC version of the game and add it to my account (even if it also continued saying Steam, as well.) I would be willing to pay that kind of money so that I'm not locked away into the Steam client now being the only way forward for me. As it stands, an account can only say "Steam" or "PC" instead of being able to add both. Does it also mean now if something were to happen to my Steam account (hacked/something happens to Steam itself/etc) that I guess I could no longer access the FFXIV account I've spent so much money on since 2.0 since my account is tied to the Steam client/account now?
As far as I'm aware there was no warning I'd be trapped on Steam-only back in 2.0. It was bad enough that I found myself locked into Steam forever with the release of Heavensward, and now I'm forced to open the Steam client to play what I've been playing for years via the stand alone client. I feel pretty disappointed in these turn of events as there is no way given to unlink myself from it.

If we're going to travel back in time to 2.0, we have to acknowledge that the possibility of a 3.0 (and how to purchase/apply it) was likely not even thought out by SE yet, so how could they inform people on something that doesnt exist? When I started as a Steam account in 2.0 there was no indication that I would be locked into only buying (and now only playing) from Steam forever (it was before Heavensward and the preorder debacle that opened my eyes to this problem.) As for steam, if you only open it once every 2 years, its likely trying to update any old games you have in your library. Just let it run and do its thing and it virtually stops being an issue. Steam uses BARELY any resources when its idle.
Which means they either don't care, or they realise they're in deep and can't make a scene about it or address it.
Although I wish that they would at least acknowledge something.

I got ARR gifted through steam, bought all the expansions since then on it. I have found during heavensward that launching through steam caused Dx11 to crash for me. I've played on the normal client since as I was told at that time it's an option and never looked back.
I understand fraud prevention to probably mean the gifting loophole that is used in G2A sales, so i'm guessing this is to help stop bots. Steam can't do anything if people aren't also signed into steam at the time of ban, so I understand a possible good reason this might be done, but at least let people who have had their steam account for months or years graduate from steam? please?
I don't like this change but it's possible to prevent some Dx11 crashes by disabling the Steam overlay for the game.

I am fully displeased with how Square Enix is handling this. I heavily regret buying the game from Steam for more than this specific reason but this puts the cherry on top. Consider this signed. Change steam accounts to Microsoft accounts, making it purchasable on steam should've been the norm, not tether it to steam.. I've played for years and I'm not about to "Buy the Microsoft Version" and start fresh, that is absurd.
EDIT: I've had thousands of issues in my past with Steam. They've been abysmal when it comes to service and they've been abysmal when it comes to inclusiveness. Reports have been an issue, communication has been an issue, and they've had system failures that they take zero responsibility for and dismiss their customers. These are my experiences and I've tried quite a few times to contact SE in order to remove my Steam status from my FFXIV account which I am positive that it is possible, but due to some grossly written line in the TOS they "cannot do that". I want to support FFXIV, but I do not want to keep buying and supporting Steam so this sure-fire makes a very complicated situation for me. Not to mention I simply don't feel comfortable having to tether myself to something else that has been an issue for me when launching the game. Steam overlay hasn't mingled very well with my rig and doesn't prove to be any different.

I left the game on PS4 Pro two years ago, frustrated. I give it another chance on PC.
I never played via Steam, I never played on PC. New to both, I chose my version at a coin toss.
Now I read this.
Signed.
I was lucky and I don't like it.
I spoke with Squenix' support as well so they could lodge the frustration re: the steam client, and asked why it wasn't possible to change licenses or remove a license so I could rebuy the Windows one. They've said it's a restriction Steam has imposed, and I could ask Steam support about it.
In the meantime, I noticed that you can remove a key from your Steam account entirely (delete it); has anyone asked Squenix if we can prove that the key is no longer on our Steam accounts if they are then free to purge the Steam license from our service accounts? I doubt it would automatically fall away, that seems too simple, but maybe with intervention? :/
