It's pretty common for games that have their own launchers. I installed Tree of Savior through Steam but never launched it through Steam for instance. Of course that game was free so there was really no license to bother with.

I download the game directly from SE and never have steam running in the background at all.
Started doing it years ago when I was still playing on my old laptop. I had a lot of issues with overheating and a few other problems, but things did tend to run more slowly when I had steam running... so I stopped running Steam while I played. Now it's mostly out of habit. I don't use Steam much, anyway, outside of grabbing up cheap games during flash holiday sales. :P
Only reason I have the steam version of the game at all is because I learned about it from a friend who was playing through steam and it was a quick and easy way for me to try it. Had no idea I'd be locked into buying every expansion ever through steam from then on out, or I wouldn't have done it.

If you go into the folder where Steam installed the files(Steam->Steamapps->Common->Final Fantasy XIV->Boot) you can click and launch the launcher directly and bypass Steam completely.
I'm logged in to steam 24/7. AAR to SB all purchased through steam. Prepurchased SHB through steam. Up to now have not encountered any problems so far.

Because what people are worried will cause problems has not happened yet. There has been no new info since the end of March.

Ï use Steam for many of my games as it is, I have not encountered any issues with FFXIV... and if in case... yes if you do try to shut down Steam normally it would say waiting on shutting down FFXIV, however if you force shutdown Steam while playing the game, the game would still run.
I don't see the issue, nor do i feel it... the ping to the game is around 13-16ish.
This is becoming something of a thing. A year ago they announced they were going to switch payment processors and listed a bunch of payment methods that would then be unsupported. We got a follow up delaying that switch to the end of last March. Then nothing.
Yet I could use one of those "unsupported" payment methods as a new payment method on the relaunched Online Store a few weeks ago and my subscription is still using it without issue.
We never got a confirmation if that is them still supporting payment methods the old payment processor accepted "for a limited time" or if the new payment processor now just accepts them.
Guess I'll find out when my subscription renewal starts to fail eventually.
They're getting ridiculously bad at clearly communicating those things. Same thing with the Xbox fineprint of requiring a gamepass subscription for XIV.

Wait so does PS not need a sub? That's pretty screwed up to people who play on Xbox if not. This is becoming something of a thing. To clarify, you still need the FFXIV sub, however, you do NOT need to pay for PS+, so yes, Xbox are screwed in that department and it was originally one of the things holding back the game from coming to Xbox.
