    Honestly, fishing is probably the only crafting and gathering thing WoW did at least somewhat better than FFXIV. In WoW you didn't have bait, but the downside was that there were special fishing nodes that'd go away after catching 3-4 fish from them. And the worst part was they were shared, meaning someone stealing your fish. But the no bait thing made it more pleasant since inventory didnt congest so much.

    There's certain appeal for having a plethora of different fish to catch, but having to have different baits that take inventory space from other stuff is very, very restricting and a vain labor for players. I've read two pages of this thread and not a single post defends the baits that take up inventory space. Having baits in the currency tab would be a very welcome thing for an enthusiasted fisher like me.

    I think they should rework the whole system. We have dozens of different baits wich have only a limited use.

    They should just copy the system we have for spearfishing. There are 3 different gig heads wich take no inventory space at all.

    My idea is to scrap like almost all of the baits.

    Let's keep 3 different ones for salt water, another 3 for fresh water, 2 for cloud and sky fishing and 1 for desert, hell and aether fishing.

    That's 9 different baits wich take no inventory space and as a side effect you will not need to buy new bait all the time because they will not be consumed anymore.

    Just cut it down to ONE fishing lure per expansion. Once you've caught at least one every fish available in the exp, you gain an achievement that lets you buy a non-consumable fishing lure that lets you catch every fish in the current and all previous expansions. The current system of separate baits for every fish is just a waste of space and time, which is why I lost interest in fishing (and cooking) early on.
    Or, turn the baits into fishing "techniques". You use one, and learn how to catch that fish with no further consumables.
    Imagine mining or botany, if you had to use a different consumable item for every thing you gathered?

    Well, you can catch different fish with different bait in the same fishing spot. Or you can catch a specific fish with bait A more often than wit bait B. I agree that we have too many different baits, but we need a few to change the RNG in our favor. Having only one bait for every fish reduces your chances to catch the fish you actually want compared to the current system.

    i, on the other hand, wish they are separate these bait even more, i think in SB they kind of go simple these bait abit, so the number of bait go down, and several fishs that share the same bait make fishing is one hell of RNG heavy and it's annoying

    i also think that they intend to make chocobo bag to ppl to hold on these bait, only thing i wish that we can choice bait direct from chocobo bag so i dont need to swap back and forth those thing between 2 inventory, and turn some quest item bag into normal inventory bag, currently we have a whole 3 quest item bag and i swear that i never manage to use even half of one bag since the time i play FF14 game
