The collector's edition is neat to have if you can find one cheap anyway. Comes with a journal and a making of DVD. Those poor people in the making of video had no clue what they were in for.
The European, Australian and Japanese 1.0 CEs also had more than that, they also included an Eorzea cloth map and a FFXIV-branded leather-encased tumbler (the tumbler was not included in the US version because of stringent laws in some US states that prevent the sale of mugs and glasses as bonuses due to liquor item restrictions, but the lack of the cloth map for the US is puzzling to me). Ah well, I still have all my 1.0 CE items so I'm happy (and yes, that includes the Onion Helm and Sprint Shoes in game too).
Also speaking of that 'making of' DVD, one of the development team briefly shown hard at work on that DVD appears to be Michael Christopher Koji-Fox, aka Fernewahles, who is the Localization Team leader and one of the world content creators for the game, and is still part of the FFXIV team in ARR (in other words, he's one of the team responsible for the lore). Although the DVD did not identify him, I recognized him later on after watching it again following 1.0's shutdown and thought it was interesting he showed up in that DVD (especially since he regularly and frequently interacts with the player community, especially the Lore panels at the Fanfests).
The DVD also shows the 3D CG modelling for Titan, but alas he was never actually seen in 1.0 (his model and related story cutscenes/dialogue were dummied out in 1.0's files and never used). So all that modeller's work was for naught sadly.![]()
