This "sniping doesn't exist" argument is funny because it seems to imply we're equating sniping a portal to theft.

No one owns the portals, we in the discord and those who are actively against the discords for whatever reason know this. You can't "steal" a portal because no one owns it, you can "snipe" a portal. Just like you can snipe something at the last minute on ebay. You can snipe the last cookie before a sibling can eat it. You didn't steal anything, you just sniped it. It's only a big deal when it's happened for about the 6th time that day.

People put too much weight on a word that's been warped by a game of semantics.

snipe implies you took something by surprise in a dishonorable way. if a rando is equal to discordian, both players would be snipers by your definition. Its pretty impossible to take something by surprise in this case since they would be close to the verysame portal, and since it pops in a random location.


The idea of sniping is clearly meant to reinforce the idea that joining the discord, queueing up etc is the proper way to do things.


Also most of the bad behavior i have seen from premades is not in the discord but in game. People say dont snipe, one group says dont be a dirtbag and use this portal. Another the laughed at some newb who went in and died, then proceeded to argue about how he sucks in public chat for like a half hour. I will say this has decreased from the initial, now, its usually only 1 or two people trying to publicly humiliate randos who go in, or intimidate rando's from using portals. However, they are the ones most non discordians interact with in eureka, and they control the narrative people have about discord.

lets be 100% honest here, wiping the raid is highly highly overated.
first its fairly unlikely unless its an av/ozma run. I dont think a single player can wipe a raiden.
second, any one can wipe a run, in discord or in game.
third the way you prevent people wiping the group is explaining the mechanic, and doing call outs, things that are perfectly capable of being done in text, and often are done in text in other situations.




The honest truth is there is virtually no difference between a discordian and non discordian, in fact its usually the same players. The main difference, is its easier to tell some one something than it is to type it. Then again people who do it in type use macros, so thats not even that huge.


There is nothing particularly evil about discord, my main complaint is in game they try to intimidate people that discord is the only way the content should be done, and unfortunately thier method has become dominant, almost ensuring that in NA, BA will always be a much larger hassle than it was ever supposed to be by design.


That said, its spilled milk. However i am always going to call out the fact that they try to promote their culture as righteous when its really just a bunch of people trying to get everyone to do something the way they prefer to do it, and to make it easier for them to do it that way.

entering the BA is actually the 100% legit proper channel for BA. the discord is a work around NA use to gain way more control over BA than they were ever meant to have.


Which is human, but it is not the "proper" way.

The system is not retarded, the system makes sense for the type of content it is supposed to be. The discord method is a workaround to turn a public dungeon into a preformed group instance. Which is the opposite of the intent of the design.


you are not supposed to have to form a queue to do BA
BA is supposed to have enough people to get fragments most of the time it is up, the reason why hydatos is so bland is because the main reason for going there is supposed to be doing BA. This is why they didnt put light farm in hydatos. They wanted around 1/3rd of the people in the instance to be interested in attempting it, not on farming their weapons. This is also why it has a slower, and less interesting fate design, as well as a bland map. hydatos is the lobby for BA. and the penalty box for dying in BA.



I mean i guess the design is bad, because it was so easy for NA to circumvent it.

they pack a plate bearer, and a self heal because its public knowledge that no one will help them if they die. Also they still do damage, and if you are new its actually a better strategy.

a dead dps does no dps, especially if Healers in general dont feel a dps is worth raising.

One thing I can be sure with all of this, is that this game community is too toxic to have public raids. Some premade think they own the place and don't want to acknowledge other people equal right to entry. And some pug/other pple not premade don't want to acknowledge the right to premade to entry.

Everyone has equal right to get in. It's like people just don't talk to each other and just barge in and then slash at each other troats.

With that we may not see public dungeons. Even if it may be different since it would requiere less people in.

Maybe a solution to that though would be to not have a restricted number of people being able to get in. This I don't get. It's supposed to be public/entry for all, and the limit is 52 or something. I guess it's the usual problem of capacity but still... Here we are.

It's not the textbook definition that weight is being placed upon, it's the attitude with which the word is being used. And even if the folks who are attempting to speak as the "leading voice" from the discord channel are being polite and aboveboard, there are plenty of folks advocating for the discord channel who are also being incredibly rude and entitled about the whole issue. And that's where I take offense to words used like "sniping" - because for some folks, it is an insult, and they are using it with the intent to say "it is my right to use this more than yours."

I have little, if any, sympathy for the OP's story because I fully believe with and agree that no, you're not entitled to rezzes or any sort of support from a group you're not working with. I get the ramifications of going into this sort of content and I see no problem with folks turning to outside sources to coordinate. My entire issue has been with the attitude of "because we planned this, we own it, even though it's public/game property, and anyone who doesn't want to join us is trash."

Just because you're not saying it doesn't mean other people aren't, and those are the sorts of people I wouldn't want to join a discord with. And because of those attitudes, I don't find it terribly difficult to believe that they play by the rules in discord because they want to be part of the group but they let loose in game where it's up to reports and GMs only to stop them.
