Name Change Feedback

I think it would be beneficial to both you (SE) and for players to incorporate a name-expiry-date. There are several names I would like to name change to, but am unable because a level 1 character has claimed the name.

A character idle for a significant portion of time (i.e. Under level 10 = 1 year, Under level 20 = 1.5 year, etc) should allow for other players who wish to use that name to take it.

I feel like we've had this thread recently. Personally, I am maybe of two minds about a name expiry. I know that I'm glad my character got to keep her name while I couldn't play the game between the times of 2.0 to 2.2, but I also know it can be frustrating for a name I want to be taken.

I have alts which I haven't logged in to in a year or two. I would be upset if they lost their names though. Just knowing they exist matters to me

I’d rather not. If you are coming up with original names, it’s going to be unlikely that they are already taken by someone else. If you are trying to name your character after a popular character from another video game/franchise/anime/whatever, it’s more likely that it will be taken. At that point, it’s first-come, first-serve.

Disagree. My Alts have Lore-accurate Auri names, and while I can understand that some people would love those authentic first name in combination with their preferred tribe, I also want those names that I chose. Just taking them away because a Char hasn't been online for a while seems just as unfair for me. Besides, what if those that chose the name then turn inactive as well?

And on another note... You could cheese your characters a free name change when waiting long enough, so I don't think SE will do that.

I'm against more then one person using the same name because it would lead to drama.
People that dislike you could simply rename themselves to your name and insult your friends using your name.
