    Akatsuki?

When I was reading all the yoshi-p interviews while making the 2.0 thread, I came across these couple little details:

Once a free company has summoned a primal, it is released from that free company's control, and another free company can try to defeat it and gain control over it.
So from this information it seems that once your company has defeated a primal, they own it until they decide to summon it. Only then will someone else have the opportunity of fighting the primal and gaining the rights to summon it themselves.

After thinking about this for a minute, I came to the realization that there might be people out there who would want to take advantage of the situation.

If I decide I don't want to summon the primal, then no one else can use it unless I decide they can. Eventually there could be a free company that comes to possess all the primals, so long as they never summon the primal after defeating it, no one else will be able to use it. Once this happens you could even have people getting greedy and creating a situation where the company says "ok if you want us to summon a primal, pay us 10million gil. We'll tell you when we do it, so be at ifrit's place at such and such time and be ready to fight it."

I'm sure there will be enterprising companies out there that will do this and take advantage of people. So I'm wondering if SE has thought of this too, and if they have any countermeasures in place. Even if they do something like, "well if you don't use the primal in a week, you'll lose control of it" the company that has the primal would know when they are going to lose control of it, and just be ready to fight again and get it back right away.

So what do you guys think of this ?

You failed to read the rest of the things Yoshi's said about this system. You don't simply get to summon the primal right after killing it, you have to get a card. The free company which kills the primal AND gets the primal's card (which I'm assuming is a low drop rate) will then get to summon it whenever they want and in any setting, and once they use it they lose the card and have to re-farm it for that primal, since only one card is dropped per server at a time.

Obviously, many free companies will try to gain control of all the primal cards and hold them all at once, and if they choose to never use them then that's their choice. I assume most companies will decide to eventually use their cards in GvG content since it's basically an 'I win' card.

I'm sure they thought it through if only ONE company ever can have the pact at that point in time because sadly there are players out there who would hold onto the pacts just so other players can't ever get them (until the timer to hold the pact runs out.)

I also recall hearing you can only have one primal at a time and it was a week(?) duration whether you summon or not.

Yes one person can only have one summon, that doesn't stop a whole linkshell holding all of them.

As you say though they must have some timer, as people could get the summon and not sign in for a year and then where would we be.

    Moon's Eye Plan is revealed?!
Find out soon in Naruto 581, the FFXIV edition!

...honestly, that idea sounds almost TOO ambitious, I doubt it would get implemented in that form. Not to say that companies won't be able to get summonable primals, but to say they are exclusive to one company at a time seems a bit extreme.

i dont see why they need to implement this kind of summoning.

cant they just stick to what worked in XI?

see if this thing makes it into the game im so afraid of the rebirth of claim bots among other kinda of bots in genral.

i enjoyed summoner in 11 but why do they need to make it so restrictive?

mostly what ive seen in the game for the time ive been playing it is there is not much going on with current end game.

we currently have primals. coffers.2 dungeons totorak.dark hold.

and thats it.aside from the 2 new ones for 1.21.

cant we go back to the basics of 11 of what made it great?

or is it wrong of me to hope for something along those lines?

this kind of implementation just seems like a silly time sink.

if they were to just add some new drops be it more weapons or armor from pirmals then that would be fine.but as it stands if they go this route then whats point. for that matter i dont even know if this is 2.0 or pre-2.0 plans.

if this is just a temp thing before 2.0 then summoner would work the same as it was in XI any thoughts?

Before you post your discrepancies with the game you should go and read all the things that have been written and recorded from interviews with Yoshi. I'm in the arduous process of trying to find the almost year-old posts where he said these things so give me a moment.

But in the meantime, this is a basic overview of how summoning/pets is planned:

    - Primal cards: cards that are awarded to hard working Free Companies that have various restrictions to prevent abuse, meant to be a fun reward and a sort of 'I win' button in large-scale PvP. Only applicable to primals, such as Ifrit, Moogle, Garuda, etc.

    - Summoner: a class/job that is planned for implementation in the future, will not be able to summon primals, but will instead be able to summon smaller things such as Carbuncle and Siren, for example. The reasoning behind not being allowed to summon primals is because having every summoner in the game be able to summon a primal at least once would diminish the view of the primals as being this one, powerful god-like creature (even if killing them is easy lol)

    - Pet class (unknown title as of yet): will be able to charm beasts in order to use them in battle.

The primals are instanced so claim bots are irrelevant. The person who has access to the primal won't hold it indefinitely. And they are going to add a real summoner class to the game so this is not the only kind of summoning that will exist in XIV. I wouldn't hold my breath expecting the summoner class to be able to summon Ifrit and the rest of his ilk though. Summoners will most likely only be able to summon lesser spirits. Hopefully it won't be those god awful elementals from the shroud that look like total crap. That would piss me off.
