excuse my rage in the recent posts but ive been waiting for summoner since day 1 and i cant see what to look forward too if my favorite job is gonna be crap.
the real issue with me isnt even that a summoner cant summon a primal because i can understand its a god.
the issue is that anyone regardless of job will be able to summon one because they have a card??
it would have made more sense if a group of summoners with actual summoning magic were strong enough to summon him
but if a war, lnc, arc, and gld can just summon a primal because they have a card, thats stupid and i feel like it belittles the summoner job
its like "oh yeah? you learned how to summon creatures with magic and practiced that as your job? well i can summon something better then you ever could and and all i ever learned how to do is swing a sword"

I understand your sentiments.. but even without primals.. maybe Summoner will still have epicness....
Bahamut could be a summon and not a Primal...
Carbuncle might not do damage but could be instrumental in some of the fights down the line

They're looking to appease the masses and leave no one out. I understand the approach. Big Primals give the companies/linkshells to strive for. Smaller summons and Tamed creatures being class specific approaches, to give an indiviual idenity to things and then the chocobo buddy growing with you and then fighting alongside you, for the novelty effect of having your own personalized chocobo at your side. I like all of the ideas, I wasnt keen on playing SMN in XI, no mage class really got my interest. Whereas here, I've stuck primarily to BLM/THM as my main focus. So I may have to give SMN a try as well. But as I said, honestly as long as they can make something like Alexander, my personal favorite summon, into a truly epic, monstrous scale thing. I'll be happy, even if I cant have a miniture one follow me around lol

I do agree with the sentiment that it would be disappointing if you love the Summoner class/job but never used it to call on Bahamut or Titan

Think about this... a summon can't take a long time because fights happen in real time.... but if the entire party is involved and the entire zone is affected by it, you can add some really incredible summon FX that you might not be able to get away with if just one person was summoning

For instance... If you had a summoner in your party and they summoned sometime like "Eden" from FFVIII, there is no way you could do a 3 minute cutscene for everyone to see
But... if an entire party is doing the summon... then maybe not 3 minutes... but a 15 second summon CS isn't out of the question

I'm excited for the primal summoning system
Diabolo fight would be sweet. I imagine that theres some kind of hidden treasure room in Ul'dah Palace (one that a street rat may find a secret passes to lol) And find a magic lamp inside.

As well as summoner.
Summoner lesser spirts would be wayy better.
But who said lesser cant be one of the good ones.
Pheonix, Carbuncle, Ixion, Fenrir, Remora, Golem,

All of these are great potential lessers, and I doubt summoner job will have all of them right away.

I'm hoping to be able to pilgrimage as a summoner and go in cloister of trials.
Seeing as job quests get harder as you go on and you need more allies in them I'm sure you could muster up some guardians as well. ^^ The first few could be more friendly/passive summons to beat in an easyer battle. Like fighting carbuncle so he can deem your worth. (Also hoping to see some form of Reflect on carbuncle, if not a "Refract" that redircts attacks to another player)

I can see it now a dragoon summons Ifrit and turns to the summoner next to him and says I'm more of a summoner then you b!tch!

You know, we could have a happy medium here.

1) Any free company can attempt a "special" primal battle in order to get that primal's card. There are unlimited amounts of cards available, so every free company on the server could get the card if they defeat the primal in the special battle.

2) Once a free company gets the card, that free company can enter into a blood pact with that primal (so the primal can get the card back).

3) Once the blood pact is entered, summoners from that free company are able to summon that primal's avatar for one earth week before the pact expires and another card must be obtained.

If the special primal battle was sufficiently challenging, it would still be a rare sight to see ifrit's or leviathan's avatar being summonable by a player. Furthermore, once entered into a pact with one primal, it would not be possible to enter into a pact with another until the first pact expires. (or entering into another pact cancels the first)

This way, summoners can be happy, avatar's can be rare, and everyone wins.
