ToS Question on Discord Bots, etc.

I'm not debating the benefits a DPS meter provides. I use them in other games. I'm sure I would improve upon using one. But it is cheating, plain and simple. I don't think it should be... but it is in this game. I can get my gathering jobs up to 70 real quick by botting, get more Gil and become a better player that way too. Same scenario. If something is against the ToS, and you're doing it for self-improvement or to get a clear, you are flat out cheating.

You are comparing a tool that records and parses your combat log to 3rd party software that completely plays the game for you, two entirely separate things. Using a parser/dps meter to measure your and your groups/raids performance is in no way, shape or form cheating. It's not controlling your character for you, it's simply just relaying back information to you in a easy to digest format so you can see how you are performing. The only reason it's technically against the ToS is to punish people who use it as a tool to abuse others, you reporting anyone who even mentions anything about it isn't going to do anything. The only way someone is going to get suspended/banned is if they are using it to grief others. So, no it's not cheating.

But really, what the hell type of server you on? I've never heard of this before and never seen it. The FC I'm in and other LS don't do any of these things.

here's the thing, everyone should want help with their class. you want to get better at the game. when did getting better at the game become such a taboo idea?

Funny enough people who fall into the "I just play for fun" crowd almost always seem to be the most against personal accountability, and actually improving. There's a difference between trying and still coming up short, and flat out not caring. A lot of them just seem to not care.

1. Joined an FC and typical I parse this, I rank this. I've played MMORPGs for a long time, and FFXIV as well. I'm confident in my rotations and know my fights. I don't need to cheat to be a good player. In other games this is not cheating, in this game, it is. If someone mentions parsing, I report them.

I'm going to be sure to Blacklist the OP so as to avoid him completely. I don't use a parser, and I don't know if any of my friends do, but reporting someone for using what is essentially the equivalent of "Recount" from WoW is ridiculous.

OP, I honestly think you need to lighten up; otherwise you're going to be very lonely in game. Maybe you should just move on from FFXIV, it may be for the best considering how rigid you are.

I mean...parser data is actually available in game as well...in fact they are public data. Its very possible for people to "parse" you by pulling out a calculator, looking at damage you dealt within a certain time frame, which would be logged on their battle chatlog in game, then they can essentially rat you out for doing low dps by doing the math manually. The parser just automate the math part. If math is cheating...then...well.

Parsing is explicitly against the ToS of this game. If you violate the ToS, you are cheating. I have no qualms with DPS meters and think it is absurd that the game doesn't allow them. I understand that they help you get better at your class. But like it or not, they are not allowed in this game. If someone wants to use a DPS meter, they should switch to another game and get out. This is not the game for them.

I hope someday this will change. I am not against the concept of parsing. I would love to use a parser to get better here. But I won't.

Using a third party tool that is explicitly called out as a ToS violation to become a better player is cheating.If you disagree with the ToS and have no qualms about violating it, parse away, SE doesn't care. I'm not taking the moral high ground here. But it is cheating. To deny that is delusion.
