Eureka meta shifted from endlessly spamming buttons to a NM train where most people just afk, thought getting to the point where you benefit from the train requires you to do a bit of grinding your challenge log.

Funny whenever I see NM Train I always think of Abyssea in FFXI and the numerous of AFK players while I killed worms.
Though @ OP I actually did like Eureka, so while I understand some people hate it - there will a few that like it as well.
At least take solace that SE did say for now Hydatos is the final Eureka.
Also OP: You could go to this post here to lament, http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...more-Eureka%21

But while Hydatos is the last of Eureka (For now...) they did say that 5.0 will have Eureka-like content...
As far as the content goes... It had potential, but some things detract from the experience...
Such as, how most of the progression is from doing NM Trains because that's the only source of crystals (Chaining seems to only give the rubbish crystals and conversion is only the good crystals > rubbish ones...) with no alternatives.
How health of enemies are so high that soloing is just plain not fun at all there, especially if you just want to grind out challenge logs...
Leveling doesn't actually provide any benefit for you, you still only gain in power from doing the quests to unlock new actions/magia and seems to only serve the purpose of punishing people for the gall of dying or entering a new Eureka zone...
Elements are pathetically dull (It's why I'm always confused when people want element types to matter... You just pick whatever colour counters the thing you're fighting and then that's it... Elements mattering tends to only actually be interesting when its on the casting end, such as D&D's Grease > Fire spell. Or Ice spell > Stone spell etc) and even then, there's arbitrary limitations on how often you can change your element type so even if you were to try and make things interesting by having to shift element types frequently, the mechanic as a whole shuts it down...
Like, the only positives I've been able to see from Eureka is that it promotes FATE Trains, which haven't been a major thing for a while, mostly because overworld content has not really kept up with the game, so they're just really bad for exp, gil and GC seals compared to just running Dungeons (Inc Deep Dungeons)... Which is novel, but can be kind of repetitive. Especially when NM's are inherently less interesting than dungeon bosses because they can't have as cool mechanics...
worms took 10 seconds to kill alone and that's just with auto attack crits atma..Funny whenever I see NM Train I always think of Abyssea in FFXI and the numerous of AFK players while I killed worms.

in the other hand it takes me a minute or so to kill a mob of my level solo its so tedious
Also what nm train in abyssea what the hell? You mean time spawn we always fought for it for KI Mega boss's pops not the rewards from the nm.

And that was your first mistake - this zone is not meant to be soloed. If you go solo, it's going to take awhile, especially starting out.
Also, if you are in pain from doing your combo - it sounds to me you need to re-arrange your hotbar to make your rotation easier to reach.
then why there's no duty ? i dont want to go fates and afk for exp no thanks i already leveled up my character to 70 to feel powerful why should i feel weak again? And that was your first mistake - this zone is not meant to be soloed. Well, I tried to go in with friends but due to level differences, we didn't get any exp or progress.
So great design.
You won't get it from chaining mobs but you will from Notorious Monsters. I have gone with low level friends quite often and have be an Uber for many of them. i also have a friend who has played and uber'd my low level toons while they were leveling as well.

I did some FATEs but felt like total leech when I was critting 70's and died to anything and everything.
Just sucks since Challenge Log grants tons of experience, but I need to struggle solo for those since there never seems to be anybody around my level there and friends can't assist with them.
The CL was the first thing I did upon arriving in Eureka. It's boring as sin. NM fights, while nothing spectacular, are at least moderately exciting the first handful of times you do them.
It would be a bit different, perhaps, if CL a feasible solo activity. That way, you could just spend an hour or so checking off the CL entries with some casual grinding and the odd spot of mortal danger. Instead, you have to assemble groups and waste lots of time while people port back for repairs, check in to see xx/xx progress, etc. It doesn't go any distance to recapturing the levelling experience of old MMO's like EQ for me, as I did most of that solo. I remember camping out on the dunes with my faithful skeletal servant in EQ and killing spawn after spawn for an unholy amount of time. That was also very boring, but at least it wasn't as annoying as Eureka, and the progress I made was real progress: not "well you've finished this area, so enjoy going back to moving about at a snail's pace and losing multiple levels because you can't do anything until you unlock the aetherytes in the next area---and everything will be wanting to kill you. Enjoy doing CL's all over again!"
As I've said in other threads, I'm happy that Eureka appears to satisfy a certain niche in the fanbase. For me, though, it's not even close to being the old-school-inspired alternative to the tomestone/raids endgame; at least not an alternative that is actually fun.
