Bad idea having first character as a tank?

So I am playing a tank and currently loving it, but sadly my team mates doesnt always like it.

Why? Because I am a beginner. Of course, theres nothing wrong with that since I know my role (having enmity at all times and know my rotation), but after reaching higher level the enemies has more difficult tactics and arent just tank and spank.

I was in The Sunken Temple of Qarn today, and I know its a low level dungeon, but there it really started to get difficult for me. Each boss has complex tactics (when you havent been there before and dont know anything about it).

Should I go there as a DPS first, or read up and down about every boss fight before entering a new dungeon? Will it only get more complexed from now on?

I started as a Gladiator/PLD. This was also my first MMO so I had a lot of learning to do. There is also tanking can teach you that you don't get as a DPS, watching enmity levels in the party list, quickly selecting a specific enemy if you loose hate, watching enemy target lines to know where adds will run, etc. I wouldn't say it's necessary to read up on every dungeons bosses before you do them, just say "hey I'm New, is there anything I should know for this boss? " people are usually pretty nice, but if they aren't don't take offense to it personally. If they don't want to share information that will keep you and the party alive they shouldn't be upset if you wipe. Tanking is fun, you should play what you enjoy. I get nervous tanking be content sometimes too, but with experience we learn to adapt on the fly and develope an intuition for what needs to be done without being familiar with the instance. That's what makes tanking so fun.

It depends on how you feel about things and the effect you have on others.

Personally, I started this game as a Warrior and up until relatively recently I didn't put much playtime into other roles at all outside a bit of leveling here and there and some grinding easy content.

As far as doing dungeons go, it's easier if you've done them as another role, so you know roughly what to expect (Though, it's not always relevant to what the Tank has to do, to say nothing of how you wouldn't know what to do as that other role anyway) so reading up about the fights and mechanics can be useful too.

Alternatively, you can just try and pick up the tactics as you go, asking others if there's anything you need to do specifically for the fights if you're unsure.

Everyone was new at one point and had to figure out the dungeons. So long as you make a reasonable effort to try and get through mechanics, you should be fine.

Most dungeons tend to be straight forward anyway, there are only a few oddball ones that have some strange mechanics that you can't pick up particularly quickly (Qarn is one of them, unfortunately) the rest of the strange mechanics tend to come from Trials (But they can for the most part be solo tanked, so you can let the other Tank in the party do the work while you DPS and learn the mechanics).

Outside of Hard mode dungeons (Which I would suggest reading up on the mechanics for, irregardless of role) the only ones that come to mind as notable in terms of mechanics for Tanks are:

    Sunken Temple of Qarn
    Dzemael Darkhold (First boss only)
The Aurum Vale (Second boss only)
Amdapor Keep (Second boss only. Though, it's rather easy just remember to not stand near the sides when he casts Repel )
The Lost City of Amdapor - This one has tactics that everyone needs to know, not just Tanks.
    Snowcloak
    Bardam's Mettle

Mostly level 50 and below dungeons to be honest...

Outside of that they're mostly just "Don't stand in the AoE circles" with maybe a "Some adds spawn" thrown in to the mix.

Don't let others discourage you from something you're enjoying. As you level up, the dungeons become far more challenging -- especially on the tank. I would recommend, if you're not too invested in the story itself, to watch guides on the dungeons before you queue for them. This definitely helps. No one should expect perfect play from a sprout, regardless of role. Keep it up! Tanking is super fun.

Just tell your teammates at the beginning, that its your first time in a dungeon. Then they know that explanations are probably needed.
    For normal dungeons thats enough.

If you get lvl 50 and want to do some extreme primals or raids, pls watch a video first and do it with partyfinder, not dutyfinder or with friends/fc mates that can explain on the run.

Tanking is great way to go! However it's nice to have an alternative for the times when you don't want to/too hard/don't get it yet moments.

No matter when you decide to start tanking, there is going to be a learning curve. It's an entirely different role with different mechanics, and different mechanics targeted towards it. IOW, I don't really think progressing with a non-tank job first is going to alleviate any of the pressure and anxiety from tanking a duty your first time.

You can always look at a dungeon guide if you want a break down of boss mechanics if you are new, but definitely let your party now if it is your first time in a duty, or your first time tanking it if you've already completed it. This really goes a long way with keeping expectations at a reasonable level most of the time.

Qarn is the first dungeon with a high threat level (one shot mechanics), so try not to feel too bad. Not every dungeon after has this same threat level going forward, but yes, you are going to have to get used to dealing with multiple things at once. Final sting from bees requires them to prioritized, and the first boss has unavoidable doom PLUS bees xD. All players repeating Qarn should know to focus bees down so you don't get hit with final sting, but I would not rely on this. Place a [1] marker on bees, and try not pull more than one.

The first boss of Qarn will inflict everyone with doom when you see the room briefly turn orange/red. If you are dealing with this and bees at the same time, be sure to cleanse your doom first, and then focus down the bees. These bees have a much smaller HP pool than the trash bees and go down quickly. So long as they are not hanging around too long you should be ok. I know you might be concerned with moving the boss around too much, but being a tank does not mean you are nailed to the ground. Absolutely move if you have to and then reposition the boss as soon as you can. This boss does not have a frontal cleave so your party members should be safe so long as you have aggro on him.

The last boss is literally a tank and spank for you. The only thing you have to do is make sure he stays faced away from the rest of the party because he does have a hard hitting frontal cleave. Everything else is all on the DPS and healer, especially the adds. But they can only handle them correctly so long as you do not attack them.

Tanking, like anything else takes practice. The more you do it, the better you get at it. So if you want to be a tank main then switching to a DPS or healer is not going to give you the rounds you need to become a good one, and you should always play what you enjoy the most. Learning is part of the fun and I would enjoy this process even if you get discouraged from time to time.

Keep at it, and when in doubt, just ask. You'll get some jerks, but most people are happy to make the fights as smooth as possible. I very often see "First time tanking, anything I need to know?", and if there is someone either says something, or the bad ones just leave (jokes on them, it's easy to get a heal/dps replace, tank..not so much, and they get penalty, so you can have a chuckle at them).

You'll be getting commendations all the time (that's the point of playing isn't it?....right?)
