    Newest Hairstyle Disappointingly Genderlocked

Let me open by saying that I'm a big fan of FFXIV in no small part because of the wide variety of pretty things I can dress my character up in. But more than glamour, hairstyles are what get me really excited for a new patch. I've been pleased to see that new ones have been released fairly regularly with new content, especially since recently new hairstyles have been unisex. This has felt like a step in the right direction towards expanding the variety of character aesthetics available to male and female characters beyond the usual stereotypes.

So imagine my disappointment to learn that the newest set of hairstyles is in fact only one, and it changes depending on the character's gender. I'd been pretty excited to use the long ponytail with a bow on my male character, only to realize that it's locked to female models. While I'm enjoying the rest of patch 4.5, it would be a lie to say that trying on new hairstyles isn't my favorite part of patch day.

Even though I totally understand that the hairstyles we got in 4.5 belong to NPCs and to that extent were already designed with a particular model gender in mind, I do think that this genderlocked hairstyle release is a disappointing step backwards. With Shadowbringers right around the corner, perhaps adjusting the hairstyles to suit both male and female models was just too low on the list of priorities right now; I get that. But given the precedent for new, unisex hairstyles set in the past, I admit I got my hopes up.

Part of my disappointment stems from the distinct lack of long hairstyles available to male characters generally, especially compared to the options for female characters. I've heard from friends that there's a possibility this will be addressed in the future, and I'm posting today to strongly encourage that.

TLDR: Newest hairstyles genderlocked, I'm frustrated. Get rid of genderlocked hair!

I play a Female character and there are so many hairstyles locked for Males that I want to wear. Especially the Ramza styled ponytail (Which I far prefer over his sisters ribbon version).

Personally I couldn't ever wrap my head around why they'd be locked anyways?
Is it truly that much to adjust per model?

Oh well, suppose I can only keep hoping it's something that will be adjusted in the future :'c

I prefer girls looking like girls and boys looking like boys so I don't see an issue.

Not sure what's not to get about what I said.

It is commonly known that some hairstyles complement girls more then boys and the other way around.
So I'm not waiting to see people run around wearing hairstyles that typically don't meet their gender.
Being bald for example is hardly ever a choice made by woman... so if every woman starts doing so... admit the game would feel awkward pretty fast.
I hope you get the point.

I realize people used to not differenciate in the past... but people started doing so ever since they became civilized.
I'm not waiting to go back in time. I'll take the most complimented hairstyle anytime, no matter your gender.
I think most people understand that cuss I rarely see a non complimenting hairstyle in game.

But they are out there... and if SE didn't make it dual gender, then I guess they made this choice for a reason and it might just be the right one

Personal taste should not dictate a gender lock. I think women look much better bald than men do.

I feel like not saying anything is the better response to this, all things considered.

I don't get the gender-locked hair, though. Seems silly, seeing as how it's 2019.

Tabbs while I agree that personal taste should not dictate a gender lock, I personally don't think that because it is our taste... all locks should dissapear.
Afterall... it takes SE money and time to make this happen and therefor I would appreciate they just select the gender it looks best on, and spend their time somewhere where its more needed.
Most games I know have gender locked hairstyles. I don't see why its suddenly an issue as long as they look good. Its almost like saying some people here like to be the oposite gender while not wanting to go the whole way
I'm gratefull that my wife in game looks feminine. As a straight guy I think its quite logical I love woman when they identify/look as woman and not look so much like men (would be a turnoff, so I hope no one here wants to force me) ^^
Don't take this too serious/negative as I'm just talking from how it would make me (and maybe some others) feel if everyone started using hairstyles that might look good on one gender, but hatefull on another.
So no, I don't care if they unlock all hairstyles or not... its not important enough to mention.
