Hello everyone, this post is in regards to the "Fatter Cat-Mount" that just released on the mogstation.
Now it's been my understanding that the mogstation was created in the first place to help improve the servers with additional funds. And I know referring to this might be old and overdone. And that is fine.
So let me just start out saying I love the fact that I can buy event items from events I missed. I always praised them for doing this because it allows them to sell additional stuff that players had a chance to play for themselves but might've missed out on, without pissing off the people that were there when it was first released.
I have however raised an eyebrow at the idea of selling stuff that hasn't been in the game before. We pay a monthly subscription, after all. We should be able to "Play the game" to get these items. This is not about being privileged, but rather making the distinction between a "Free to Play" game and a "Monthly Subscription" game. But considering most of these items have been part of different countries events and such, I feel it is alright to give it a pass.
However, when I see a €24,- mount on the mogstation straight up, without anything prior to it, it really leaves a sour taste in my mouth on business practices from Square. This is 2 months of subscription worth for a mount, let me grind for it in the game for 2 months if you really want to.
This should not become the norm to make your loyal 'player' base pay for something they can not 'play the game' for.
This is fine for a free to play game, because it gives them a chance to show their love and support for the game. But there's only so much love and support you can garner additionally to having them already pay their monthly fees for a game. Which for many is already a barrier to entry to any game they might choose and devote that support for from their wallets.
This truly is leaving me disappointed and worried about Square's choice of business model.
