I've been crafting since ARR and don't recall much in the way of failing crafts even with some randomization. It was essentially if I had REALLY bad luck, I might only have a 97% chance to HQ instead of 100.

Now what is REALLY going to rev up the economy is when they add crafting/gathering leveling boost potions.

*Gets HQ items... Never worries about failing anything.* That said... three star stuff has me nervous... this expac and I just can't be bothered to craft my own crafting gear so I can spend weeks trying to overmeld things so I can not be too worried about three or four star things.

In fact I'm thinking perhaps next expac I'll not worry about crafting much. Because the only thing my crafting classes did? Was make all of the gear up to lvl 70, and I stopped. Because I'm not a rich person and wasting gil on (at the time 200k materia was beyond insane).

Well actually... maybe I'll keep it up... My Gathers certainly benefited for awhile.

It's content that will be downloaded. It literally will be DLC.

Personal feelings are that crafters kinda lost some of their value by HW. For combat classes, poetics are easy to come by, anyone can gear up in i130/270 stuff. Which, to me, kinda left them in an awkward position of mostly just supporting themselves.

But I'm not a money making crafter, and certainly not end game, so, biased views.

Leveling crafting jobs generally speaking you could say, wasn't necessarily hard to say just can take a while depending on what Method you used to level up whether through Custom deliveries/scripts or just grinding. Note this is referring just leveling getting experience points, making specific items now that can either be difficult or easy depending on how you go about it you might say.

I'm quite new to crafting since I finished leveling them up around 4.3 and started crafting with Yamashi / Rakshasa stuff, so I can't tell much about what it used to be back then.
My opinion on it is more about how samey it all boils down to; you have a set of cross skills, and a single rotation for all crafters (or maybe two rotations because of durability).

I'd like it better if some crafting classes worked in groups, or something like that (for instance Weaver and Leatherworker, Blacksmith and Armourer...). And different sets would need different rotations (well, it would be difficult given the nature of crafting in the game) or different ways of crafting.
Or if we had real group content crafting (not being in a team to put things in a FC workshop though)... I'm really curious about Ishgard thing, although I hope it won't be just "give X amount of this object, rinse and repeat".

Edit (realising I did not answer the topic): I'm not so much for crafting to be harder, but more for crafting to be more diverse and interesting.

What they need to do my cousin says is to put in existing crafting materials to the crafting table for new items.

Like say if the new sword had all new materials from shadowbringer but add like heavensward ore and a realm reborn item to craft the new sword.

This way the items don't become obsolete and lose value.

You look in Market board you see the items that used to sell good from old crafting items now only cost 1 gil that nobody farms anymore because of that it would breathe life into old content.

Crafting has never been hard. Certainly it has never been "Hard" to level crafting classes, since you can literally level up using only Beast Tribe quests and as a result get all of your classes to max level and only ever craft anything on 1 class (Basically, for Ixali/Moogle just use one high level class to easily speed through all the crafting and then simply turn in on the low level class. For Namazu, you have to swap to the high level class after getting the quests and materials to do the crafting) it takes a while, but is ridiculously easy to do.

As far as demand goes... To be honest, buyers don't give a damn how "Risky" a craft was. They're only willing to pay what they feel is worth the goods. So, with more options for gear (Including Dungeons that give up to ilevel 375 gear compared to the highest ilevel crafted stuff at 390 (After exchange, otherwise 380) and of course Genesis Tomestone ilevel 390 gear...) of course people aren't going to value stuff as highly.

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Just means that crafters need alternative niches to provide things that people want instead of mostly just gear at max level.

Heck, I suggested at some point, adding in multiple ways to progress Relics. With one way being for crafters to be able to craft parts for it (In addition to alternative means of procuring the items, not a repeat of Zodiacs with the Desynth + Master recipe items). Relics are often quite popular and tend to be limited in how you can attain the items required, so if crafters could work on making parts, those would likely sell pretty well, so long as they're not easily mass produced.

How I feel about it: I mainly just want maxed crafters so that I can gear my jobs via an alternate route to tomes & the like. Difficulty isn't really something I'm craving, but I can see why it would be important to more market-oriented crafters.
