Been getting constant errors for two weeks now

So about two weeks ago I started to get errors that crash my client or just random crashes without any errors.

They first appeared so that whenever I was in a duty, I'd crash. Since then, I've re-installed Windows, updated all drivers, re-installed FFXIV multiple times and tried installing older drivers.

These are the errors I get:


Today it seems to be the worst as I crash with the errors, login in again to crash after a few minutes and then on the third try I can't even get into the game before it erroring.
I just tried on a piece of armor from the market board and got this:


I'm at a complete loss as this game worked perfectly in early February, but not anymore.

It's even worse today. I can't do any duty at all. I went into MSQ roulette and got Castrum Meridianum and I errored out twice before the first boss and twice before the second pack of trash.

Is there anything I can do? At this point the game is unplayable for me and the next step on my own would be to unsub and cancel my pre-order and I don't want to do that.

I know it would be a temporary solution, but since it seems you have a direct x11 issue, you could try with direct x9, no ?

Managed to do at least one dungeon today with Direct X9, but the errors have been random in the past so will need to do more testing. Thanks for the tip for now though... Although I think 9 is going away in July? Would be nice to find a working fix for 11.

I apologize for the delay in our response to your problem. What have you tried so far to alleviate the crash? You mention that you are able to play on Direct X9; does it crash on DX9 as well?

What I've tried so far in the following order:

- Update graphics driver
- Update sound card driver
- Re-install FFXIV
- Install older graphics card driver
- Update BIOS
- Re-install FFXIV
- Re-install Windows 10
- Re-install all the drivers from manufacturer's website
- Re-install FFXIV
- Install older sound card drivers
- Downgrade BIOS
- Re-install FFXIV
- Install virtual sound card
- Delete virtual sound card
- Re-install FFXIV

None of these seemed to work. Bear in mind that I made no changes before this error started and I managed to play completely fine before that.

DirectX9 hasn't crashed on me yet, but I've only managed to do 2 duties with my limited time this week.

I also tested some games that should be running DirectX11 and none of those crashed.

Unfortunately, this error is a bit vague so there are a few things you may want to try.

First try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game. make sure not to run any other programs when you play the game. This includes any overlays (Discord overlay, Geforce Experience, etc.), make sure these are disabled.

Try setting the compatibility mode to Windows 7. Right-click on the ffxivboot.exe file and select ‘Properties.’ Then select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and choose Windows 7.

When you reinstalled Windows, did you make sure to update it completely? You may want to check if there are any 'Optional' or 'Recommended' updates available that aren't installed automatically.

Can vouch for disabling overlays as first thing to try, all kinds of it including Discord, Steam, Game DVR in Windows 10 etc, to see if it helps the problem go away. Every time you update a software with overlay it might bring changes to it or turn overlays back on again that can cause the error and crash.
