I don't care about the rings matching. I glamour over my rings too assuming I'm not using some kind of full fingered gloves. But it does bug me having one ring of the same type being 10 ilvs below the other. Just making them untradeable will serve their purpose. They don't have to make them unique, unless there is something I'm not understanding about why they are designed that way.

I don't know. I mean I get it in WoW with trinkets because they can have some crazy effects sometimes, and in WoW there's usually multiple options of rings from the same source. (Be that mythic dungeons, a raid tier etc) so I guess it's not as big of an issue in WoW. I really don't get what the issue is with rings in FFXIV. They have no special effects like trinkiets where you would want to be sure to make them unique as a limiter or something. It just feels weird to have a full set of gear from somewehere cover everything...except for one ring slot. It's not a big deal just a little weird.

It could simply be a case of SE wanting the exact same amount of items per different type of gear slot in each tier. I don't think it would be unbalanced to remove the unique tag from tome rings though.

Maybe because the unique tag is not tied to item type but rarity ? Is there a non unique rare/relic item in the game ?
If it is tied to rarity that would be problematic to change.
It could also be a way to push people to do other types of content.

My guess would be that they want to set caps on how much of a sub stat players can actually get (though this is just speculation)

If the rings were made to be not unique, then you could run into situations where you could get a job that gets just enough extra substat to break into another tier, making it much more powerful than they intended it to be in raid scenarios. For example, the Omega ring this expansion isn't great for monks compared to the tomestone ring. If a monk could get an additional 150 points of critical hit from stacking two ilv 400 tomestone rings, it might give the monk more critical hit than was intended for the job to obtain at max gear level this expansion (I haven't done the math to prove or disprove this specific case, just using it as an example)

Additionally, items might be tagged as unique to help idiot proof the tomestone gear system. If you can't buy another item you already own, then you're less likely to make a mistake when purchasing gear. This is less applicable when it comes to half your gear being upgraded, it it is possibly something they considered in making the items unique.

That sounds like they would need to split them into Left and Right rings and give them different stats if what you say is actually the case. Which very well could be. It could also be as someone said SE trying to get people into other content... But I don't feel like one ring is going to make people do Savage raiding that are not already doing it for the weapon / armor / gear.

Splitting them up into left ring and right ring, though, is a pretty player unfriendly move to make for those who do savage raiding as that would mean your savage rings would also need to be flagged as left and right, giving more variance to what rings you need to get and making gear progression even harder for not much actual benefit.

I still think giving the third option in the 24-man raid is the best solution to item level, and while that doesn't solve your character screen complaint, I would venture to say this annoyance is something that doesn't bother the majority of players.

Not really. You could leave Savage as a One Ring scenario that isn't left or right. If it has better stats than one of the tome rings then you only need to get one tome ring. Tho I guess if I want two of the same ring Savage raiders might want two of the Savage ring so maybe all rings should be Left and Right lol.
