    New player looking for guidance.

So the only mmo I have played uptil now is wow and that one also I never got into end game dungeon content .
But for ff14 I have got into the game with intention to do all things .pve dungeons ,pvp bg or whatever they are called here . I have tried both keyboard and controller on PS4 and for some reason I find controller a bit easier to manuver things .
I have started out as archer and lancer . I want to understand the game completely .like what effect spells have .how to do lvling efficiently . How to reach endgame content and when I reach one how to progress in it efficiently .

    Welcome to FFXIV.
Here's some useful stuff to know:

    1. The main story quests (marked with a flaming meteor icon) are mandatory for unlocking most content in the game so they should be your priority for progression.

    2. Your class quest should be your second priority as they can give you new abilities and equipment.

    3. At level 15 you can talk to a Smith npc to do Hall of the Novice exercises. The lessons are very basic for a MMO veteran but still worth doing as they give you some gear culminating with a exp boosting ring for level 30 and below for finishing the final lesson.

    4. Quests that unlock content or game features are marked with a + sign and worth checking out. PVP is unlocked from one such quest at level 30 after joining a Grand Company in the story.

    5. There are in game tool tips for what abilities do. The Balance Discord is a popular out of game resource for optimal endgame rotations.

I'd highly recommend doing Hall of the Novice exercises. Not only it gives you good gears, but it also explain the very basic of your role, what you should do in that role, and apply all of those in different scenarios. Real duties will be a bit different from what you learn in HoTN but it's a lot of trials and errors before you fully understand your role, your job/class.

I suggest you to progress with the main story quests as much as you can, then the job/class quest as your second priority as Moomba33 said. The normal quests with the (+) sign gives you EXP and gils, but some certain ones also give some good reward items. When you unlock Duty Roulette, be sure to do them at least once per day as it gives you a lot of XP and gils (and many other forms of rewards the more you play) in the future. But more importantly, you should try to go out and explore everything surround you by yourself as much as you can. It's more fun that way in my opinion that you learn something new everyday

Play with which ever is most comfortable for you, they both work equally well. I play on PC but with a controller, I know some players who play on the PS4 but with a kb and mouse. I would, however, recommend using a kb for PS4 for chat in game.
