    Open world dungeons in and of themselves are not a bad thing and can add some interesting dynamic events to the overworld or some more visible lore/storytelling, especially if they're done right. While I have yet to do BA, it seems more like a larger 24-man raid than a true public dungeon but as instanced content is how XIV does its thing that's understandable. I'd be very interested if this was a concept they wished to pursue in the future but would much prefer it be attached to the open world rather than connected to instanced content.

    Seriously, NO ONE mentions Diadem? Sure, it had more than its fair share of flaws, but you could fly and gather some of the more profitable mats in the game at the time. Hell, a lot of the money I made during Heavensward was because of some of those fate rewards in there. At the end of the day, I'd take Diadem over Eureka any day of the week.

    If there are future public dungeons, I think there should be more inspiration drawn from Diadem rather than Eureka. Something that everyone can get into that isn't gating the relic weapon or requiring other sorts of ludicrous grinding.

    The problem with open world content is... its either claimable by one group, which invites claim bots. or its hunts.... which people hate.

    I think it would be cool to see some dungeons "(Hard mode)" become a open dungeon version of it
    Like Aurum vale or Dusk vigil

    Be interesting to see 56 people in a huge aurum vale

    We got crystal tower, directly from ff3! yay!
    They added bosses and content and crossovers from nearly every title! Yay!
    We are getting the car from XV even though its terribly out of place in Eorzea! Yay!

    Theres one thing with references thats fine
    But people just wanting to turn ff14 into ff11 is a bit of a problem

    So your example is pretty much moot

    The Baldesion Arsenal really needed to be its own instance like Diadem.

    They could've just made it so a player/group could host an instance, then either randoms could jump in or a password could be used to allow only specific people in.

    Most give this one a pass because it's A) the first 24 man content and B) was the first major reference to another game entirely.

    Plenty of people (yourself included it seems) dislike that as well. Bonus points for disdain for the SDS Fenrir.

    Largely the same reaction. Also as Duskane said, there's a difference between referencing another game and outright trying to turn this game into that game, or creating some weird hodgepodge of the both of them that just don't work.

    ff13 and ff15 is what ff14 needs to strive to be. open, have replayability and exploration. ff14 has none of those. ff13 and ff15 was very well received outside of the minority vocals and the memes, it turned out to be a good game. ff14 needs true open areas like public dungeons from ff15 that felt part of the world and not just kill run kill, actually climb, active xyz, swim to the bottom of an area and pick up a key to open the door...anything other than just kill trash and boss. inb4 go play another game, i like ff14 but it needs to grow and open up real adventures

    I think an 'ideal' solution would be to mix elements from both Diadem and Eureka. Don't lock the relic behind it; integrate gathering into it; flight; maybe tie it to the relic as one way to go about it so people in the future still have motivation to bother. But take things from Eureka like self buffs that let you clear content alone, and for the love of everything, scaling. I'd be hunting NMs in Diadem if the thing scaled to the amount of people I can get to come in there with me, but it doesn't.
