    I agree with most people about Blue Mage needing to be a regular job starting at level one! This is an easy fix: 1) remove the blue mage spell book (it is not needed) & put all our spells in the level requirement tree like all the other classes, 2) spells can only be learned from the world npc's & dungeon bosses like normal, 3) the info on what npc's to learn spells from will be in the spells text on the ability page, 4) reduce the spells & overpowered spells damage output like 1000 needles doing 500 damage max but be on a 2-3 minute timer or useable only once per battle, 5) make spells like self destruct have a penalty for using them like you can't be resurrected if you use it (like some boss fights in game now where you fall to your death & can't be res'd), & make Carnival open to every class to just have fun in! Just some ideas I have about the nonclass/limit job! Watcha all think?!?

    BLU will probably never be implemented the way we want. As badly as we all want a modern BLU to main as in this game, they've relegated it to mid-expansion side content to try and bank off of BLU's popularity when the population is lower.

    FFXI made me fall in love with BLU ten times over. FFXIV made me finally stop caring about it. All of the excuses they use just don't justify how BLU works in this game. They didn't want to nerf "powerful spells" for the sake of balance in this game, but it costs us the ability to actually play it with people. In an MMO. I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind weaker effects if we could actually main our favorite job, clearing content with our friends.

    But hey at least we can cast White Wind by ourselves!

    And requiring people to get spells isn't as big of a deal as Yoshi-P made it out to be. People adapt and learn how to play the game. Especially most of us that love the job anyway.

    I remember seeing the roadmap for Blu, and how yoshi was so proud about this horrible platter of crap.
    That road map NEVER happened, it was supposed to by 5.0 lol

    Blu is dead, pissed
    And ranged caster was the WORST choice for blue mage.
    Blus are physical, period. They always use swords

    YoshiP never liked blue mage to be implemented to FF14, he highly disapproved it as a job, and implemented just for the fan base. Blue architecture isnt good for a mmo old style like ff14, is more a single player rpg style job. And as it is now will allways be just a mini-game job for 2/3 weeks content.. or less.
    Blu will never be reworked as a REAL job, sad but true, it will just get a level increase to match with old content, some new magic and some unique content/minigame, thats it. Blu mage its just a mini game job to run old stuff for 2/3 week and then forget about his existance.

    It has worked in a multiplayer environment before, it can work in a multiplayer environment again. If FFXIV is so constrained, so strict, that they can't design around a concept as simple as 'Job that uses skills that enemies also use,' then we might as well never expect any genuinely new gameplay out of this game.

    This will never happen it has been stated already sry it's a limited job which means limited I know everyone wants blue mage to be a main job but it will not be the same feel as every other final fantasy blue mage which the current one does

    All it needs to do to feel like every other Final Fantasy Blue Mage is learn enemy skills through a passive or active interaction with them. It already does this.

    Exploiting Dark Cutter and Level 5 Death ala FF5 speedruns is not the gameplay most people engage in when using the job in its many many iterations. There have been iterations where it had limited to no exploitative nonsense, and nobody complained. The only iteration that had more than a handful of spells was FFXI's and while that would be *nice*, most of us understand that it would create a logistical nightmare to balance, and are okay with a model more like the majority of its appearances.

    Saying "It will not happen" is opposition for opposition's sake.

    I disagree on BLU's architecture not being good for an MMO. BLU design doesn't have to be all or nothing in terms of what players can learn from mobs, though the developers seem to disagree with me as they think BLU has to learn ridiculously OP spells in order to live up to the concept.

    I mean barebones without mechanics, you could have BLU with 27-28 ability slots like a standard job. Have a standard set of monster spells they have to unlock by killing corresponding mobs. Use the spellbook architecture currently in place to have certain spells be swappable. For example, the lv35 job quest spell could be White Wind, but the spellbook will show you can swap that for other spells that count as utility skills (maybe a nerfed version of Mighty Guard, or Moon Flute), provided you've done the legwork to unlock them. For content like the Masked Carnivale, let the BLU get access to even more spells that they would not be able to use in duties/dungeons/raids.

    And in case anyone would say "it'd be unfair for BLU to be a regular job and have content dedicated to it", I'll point to the fact that I'm the guy that suggested BRD get its own content because it makes sense in terms of lore and job concept, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    Ff5 they used swords
    Strago used staffs and wasnt physical oriented
    Ff7 enemy skill only had a few physical skills and wasnt cloud exclusive
    Quistis used a whip and again only a few skills did physical damage
    Quina used a fork and again werent necessarily physical spells
    Khimari used a spear
    11 had swords and physical spells
    Tactics used swords
    Bravely Default they used daggers natively and lots of physical magic so it fits
    Bravely Second uses cats and physical weaponry so again fits your bill

    So overall its a mix not just physical swords

    What purpose other than cosmetic would a sword provide to BLU. In most of the titles that had BLU they only used the sword for the first couple of spells then their swords began to gather dust. The exceptions were FFVIII, X, and XI and that was because in 8 and 10 Blue Magic was limit breaks and in 11 they had the skillchain gimmick. The sword was never a part of BLU identity, that belonged to RDM who is a mix of WAR,BLM, and WHM. BLU was always about learning fiend magic and using it against their foes. My theory on why they used physical weapons in some older FFs is because they needed to learn their first spells, so they had to deal decent damage somehow; however that's not the case in FF14 since we learn our first spell from a cutscene fight.

    So I must agree with ReiMakoto on this point and say no to the sword.

    Plus our pimp canes are so stylish I could have never thought of such a neat design for a weapon.
