I don't think it would ever be a real solo job anyways as far as mechanics are concerned. Even then, what's it matter? It would just be a glorified glam farmer and mount farmer at that point.
It's not that I don't want solo content, it's that when I want to do solo content, I don't want it limited to a single job. I want an alternate progression for my other classes that can be solo. Not a class that just feels thrown in. I'm not sure what people are wanting from a solo class in the first place. Never wanted it as a solo class I always wanted to do what it's done in other games play with others and have synergies with them. Those carnival fights are good enough for me as side content. Just have those up til 70, then at 70 turn it into a full class so at 90 it can do real content. Then you sync down in level as "unlimited" to do the carnival
I don't really personally care for Blu to be a "do everything" kind of class. It was Mostly used it for its niche skills, damage and white wind. It only felt really strong when it's niche stuff worked. A lot of its skills were often weaker or aqua breath was on normal non desert mobs. You don't need the OP heal though or mighty guard. Then tons of the rest of the skills like petrify and doom. damage dealing was their main focus. Not tanking or anything. They would buff up people like in the games but I think in this game they would fit somewhere around bard and rdm in xiv . They focused on buffing the entire party and often had weaker stats over all themselves. Like quina had tons off buffs with Freya. Pretty much the same in ff8 and ff5. BLUs physical damage was bad in ff5, 8,9. Often scaled weird too and a lot of spells weren't super powerful besides its niche uses.
Heck mighty guard could work like Troubadour and palisade. Then make off guard that is similar to piercing debuff or something but used for everyone to deal more damage.
Currently it's taking up a ranged dps slot and making it look like we have 4 classes to go in line with the others types like tank and healer when we don't.

You do realize Yoshida was talking about Final Fantasy XIV right? Not every "final freaking fantasy", but this MMORPG that is currently running. What would turn based combat for a job in an MMO even look like? How would you compress every job into a sub game? How much effort are they going to flush down the toilet to make that work just for another one-off minigame that barely anyone one will play after a week? And this is just considering how they would add a single player turn-based system to an MMO. Making it social with a party has the potential to be a god awful afkfest. Have you ever played a civ game with other people? Imagine that all the time. That's turn based gameplay where you need to wait on multiple people.
I'm all for calling BLU the awful shallow minigame it is, but cool it with the hyperbole. It doesn't serve any purpose and undermines the actual problems with Blue Mage.

Out of context or not thats not a sentence that ever shouldve been said by Yoshi. And in regard to it being directed at 14, being it still IS ff, how can someone not even “think” about it while going to sleep, even one time. Says alot, and when you want people to listen dont tell them to cool it. Tends to have the opposite effect. You do realize Yoshida was talking about Final Fantasy XIV right? i think no need blue mage just a class play for fun
I am fine with it
Nothings saying you can't still play it for fun, just let it do more things that way people who love the class and have been waiting for it since the game first came out can have fun with it too. What about the people who wanted to main it and raid on it? I don't think they're having fun with it.

Hopefully this HUGE thread is passed around as SE's HQ and they at least talk about the idea to they're teams. Bucuase I just want to play my favorite class and not be doing jack while I watch all my friends doing fun stuff and I if I want to play with them i have to play a class I don't want to play just hang out with them. Here's hoping they learn from this. If you want to make "Limited Jobs" Aka minigames. Make new classes for it. Don't kill people favorite jobs becuase all you do is make people mad. Just make new jobs and have people play that. There you make everyone happy.
I really love when people respond with "leave it as it is, its a fun job" and give nothing constructive.
Yes, it is a fun job, But, its limited. You can't do normal content, you can't do missions, If you want the best spells, you Need to rely on at best, 7 other perfect Blu's to do the content, Or at worst, leech off of higher players, once again, to get spells that you can't even use in the main game.
Obviously, all games are a time-sink, but at least with all other jobs, you invest the time and you can partake in the full experience. This isn't the case with Blu.
What's wrong with it being Fun AND being able to actually play the job functionally.
To the people who say its fine, would you be opposed to being able to actually play the job in real content? Or would you really rather it be relegated to a job you play 30 minutes a week to do the carnival, for honestly, crap rewards. And if you are ok with that, good for you, Majority of us aren't.

It's been couple months now after Blu release and we have been bombing their forums about the complaints and yet they don't even bother replying or acknowledging. So..... In return I'm not acknowledging the game. I'll keep checking how Blu ends up in 5.1 but if it's still disappointment I'll just unsub.
Understandable. If I didn't have a raid team and friends who still play the game I would quit too.
