Keep wiping at The Vault endboss with random parties

So, been playing for 3 weeks now - The Vault is the only dungeon so far I keep and keep failing at. The trouble is: Duty roulette. I wipe with randoms who iose much HP to mechanics. Ran it during my MSQ with guildies just fine, one try and done.

Is there any trick for a WHM healer? Reaction time, what skills to use... efficient controls for PC...whatever... I kept spamming Cure II on individuals because of the ~50% HP loss to every mechanic so they wouldn´t die to the next AOE. Also, we were too spread out for Medica. It distracted me from some mechanics... this boss can two-hit players with lv.60 gear, especially light gear wearers. The thing is: Usually I get everything the 2nd try latest - be it Aurum Vale or, well, every other dungeon and trial so far. What is it about the Vault? It confronts me with one of the reasons I almost decided against starting with a healer - yet it´s just too fun to stop.

It happened with every single random duty finder party so far. Incredibly frustrating, I´m tempted to kick myself before the run even starts from now on.

Thanks for answering and bearing my rant^^"

This dungeon has always been a pain for healers. Even for a seasoned veteran I struggle to heal pugs in this dungeon. It's very mechanic heavy and when you doing do them the result is severe. MP regen has always been wierd there as well. The horses will annihilate dps if they dont avoid and the chain will do the same if they dont run from each other and break it.

Well, people told me that about 2-3 other dungeons and trials before Vault - that they were a healer check - and I did just fine.

Being called a bad healer for failing one dungeon frequently is...well... or maybe I just feel I´m a bad healer.

Especially when someone equally new at healing AND using PS4 controls manages way better.

How much time should I give myself before deciding to leave a class be? I can find fun in almost every class I´m sure so there is no use to play one that I might keep failing more difficult stuff with...

can't really be called a bad healer for that instance, it's a nightmare. Alot can go wrong in a very short amount of time.

i wouldn't say you should leave the class, especially if your enjoying it, i say keep trucking along bad or not, you can only get better at something the more you play and understand it. I can only hope you run into other like minded individuals who can understand the horrors of healing in the Vault.

Thanks for the encouragement^^ Will try to keep my head up, even when the fails are my responsibility.

I found a tip about keeping a third eye (1st is on party HP bar, 2nd on ground and environment haha) on the opponent cast bar to prep Cures beforehand. Will practice this I think.

As others have said, that dungeon is a nightmare to heal in pugs. Even veteran healers have trouble with it, particularly if it's a bad party.

My advice would be to seek help with it on Duty Finder. You need a party that can do the mechanics. Of course, as healer you also need to be sure you can do the mechanics, as mechanic competency is critical to playing healer. However, it sounds like you are.

If you want to make that dungeon easier, mechanics-wise, I suggest NOT moving to the gap in the knights immediately. What happens is that the AoEs spawn under all the players, as the knights start to march across. The #1 wipe issue in pugs is that people block off the safe spot for the knights by all moving to the safe spot as soon as the knights appear, causing the aoes to spawn on the safe spot. This is particularly bad with the chains, because the chained members need to run diagonally. One player needs to go through the safe spot and into a corner, while the other needs to run into the opposite corner away from the other player and the knights, before coming back to the safe spot. If the safe spot is blocked, the chain doesn't break, or the DPS eat knight damage trying to break it horizontally.

I strongly endorse this. Precasting heals is another fundamental skill for healers that becomes more and more important as you do harder content. Practice it and you'll be feeling a lot less stress!

Oh and the ideal time to start casting your cure is usually about 75% through the cast bar. Although this changes a bit depending on the speed of the cast. The standard cast bar is going to be at around 70-75% though.

P.S. Sorry for the multi-posts. Mobile

The thing I see that a lot of groups have trouble with is when you have two ranged or a ranged with a melee as they don't stay close to the melee or together as the chains break faster if you start closer. The other is getting hit by the knights.
