				I don't know if FF14 really needs their own voice server because for example people in other mmos like wow will still link their discords and not use the in game one when they do pug raids.


			
			
				If people want to use Discord they can already do so.How would you feel about Discord or some sort of proprietary voice system in the game? This would be similar to World of Warcraft's in game voice system or EverQuest II's.
This could help people overcome harder challenges by offering a better form of communication for more difficult encounters,
I would hate for voice chat to become de facto required for anything in the game, so as far as I am concerned it is a good thing the game has no direct support for it.


			
			
				Voice chat is a resource hog, even in the best implementation. There's just no going around the fact that it either needs to transfer a lot of data (bandwidth hog) or convert the voice on the fly into smaller sound data (hardware resource hog). If it was mandatory then it would make the game unplayable for those that have computers just powerful enough to run the game.
Not to mention, money spent on servers for it to not break the game would be better spent on hardware to upgrade the actual game servers.
