    Stagnant Housing

Hello, I know this is an issue that has been brought up before but I would like to readdress it. I was hoping the SE would have taken some time since their last housing update in 3.2 to make some changes. I understand that Servers have been highly congested and additional room for housing is not available yet. Yet they have not seemed to address the issue that some players have quit and are not coming back. Sad to say I have some friends that have done so. No matter what I try they will and are not coming back. So there their house sits month on end taking up precious server space, for what? I do not know how hard it would do a purge of the housing but I think SE should try to do one before Shadowbringers. With the new database coming out and 5.0 I'm sure it will allow new housing district to be built but until then let's clean out some space and not make players wait 5 months for a chance at a location that is not being used in the first place. I feel like housing is a strong aspect of FF14 and more players should have a chance to experience it. Anyone have any thoughts, Should long gone players lose their homes or not?

The houses normally have a natural purge process when they are not accessed within 45 days. See this. The NA servers currently have this process paused due to natural disasters, but when it turns back on we'll see houses auto-demolished on a regular basis.

The demolition timers were paused for last October's hurricane season.

Best thing you can do is keep an eye open for the announcement of the timers being re-activated THEN count 45 days after that because that is when a lot of housed will explode at once because if a player enters the house during the suspension period the timer starts at 45 days when it recommences. It was how I got my Shirogane medium last February.

Houses will start "exploding" on the day the timer re-commences, however you are correct in thinking the big purge will be 45 days after the timer re-starts.

I can understand this concern on larger servers, but Midgardsormr isn't exactly hurting for houses. Last I checked we had over 200 open plots in Goblet alone.

9 times out of 9, it's "but the plot I want isn't open". /shrug emoji

I posted in the other thread about auto-demolition about my opinion on the current housing design. Summarizing it I feel housing has stagnated heavily and doesn't encourage social interaction due to there being so many zones splitting up the player base. I feel to get over this instanced housing needs to be implemented.

Ideally there should be a complete redesign (Mist, Goblet, Lavender Beds and Shirogane) and make plots equally viable or at least not put a huge rock or other players houses directly in front of a house. For example imagine if you had a row of plots all facing the beach and close to market boards & NPCs. There also needs to be a combining of wards in some manner so that people can interact with each other more easily in a housing location. This would then make mannequins somewhat useful since you would actually have customers who didn't stumble on your house by accident. Why does everyone congregate in Limsa Lominsa for example, this would be because its a centralized hub with easy access to market boards, its basically what I wanted housing to be but housing is a far cry from this.

Speaking of this there will always be the players who prefer to not interact with other players with their housing and there could be the option of being completely separated from other players housing via instances e.g. Apartments but with the perks of being able to show friends and FC members your garden and house exterior/interior.

There's so much they can do with housing, they just need to prioritize it higher than content such as Eureka which to me felt like a mistake since they had to link Stormblood Relic progression to it directly in order to get people actively using it.

I want housing to be useful (as a crafter I would eventually like the ability to have customers purchase some items from my retainers directly without needing a market board middleman stealing money if I happen to have a message on the noticeboard saying I sell armor sets [yes I want a noticeboard too]), allow for more socializing by having more players in the one area and have an improved aesthetic design of the wards especially if instanced housing is introduced which would need a complete redesign anyway due to certain plots being favored over the others e.g Mist Plot #6.

wouldn't it be sorta boring if the wards were redesigned to not have plots in scenic locations? when the wards were expanded i was online early to snag my fc's spot in goblet because i wanted us to be seen as soon as you enter the goblet(shoutout to plot 4), it's special and a sorta power spot.

I wouldnt have minded if we ended up somewhere else but I feel thats what makes housing special is aiming for the prime locations, you may not get one this year but you never know when an fc may die or someone never comes back and that spot opens up

If everyone can't have access to housing then nobody should have access to housing. The housing acquisition system is pathetic.

Everyone has access to housing. It's just not what you want because you feel entitled to more.

The only argument I can agree with is lack of gardening for apartments. If gardening is super important to you, I can see how you would want a plot.

But you wanting to feel special with the same amount of space as everyone else is not the same as you not having access to housing. Not to mention most people don't even hang out in their homes, decorate them or use them. You can pretend on the internet that you will but the data is different.

Frame your "argument" correctly. It's better to be like "im salty because I can't get my perfect house exactly where I want it" and then propose ways in which that can be remedied. Add value to the conversation.
