    **Update**

I successfully went two weeks without a disconnect but they started again yesterday. I can confirm all troubleshooting steps listed previously have been done. I can provide a trace route:

    1. <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2. 53 ms 67 ms 62 ms **.***.**.***
    3. 62 ms 64 ms 61 ms be-10003-rur01.santaclara.ca.sfba.comcast.net [68.86.249.65]
    4. 63 ms 63 ms 61 ms be-232-rar01.santaclara.ca.sfba.comcast.net [162.151.78.253]
    5. 61 ms 69 ms 57 ms be-3651-cr02.sunnyvale.ca.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.91.73]
    6. 70 ms 65 ms 62 ms be-11025-cr01.9greatoaks.ca.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.87.158]
    7. 69 ms 66 ms 47 ms be-12578-pe04.9greatoaks.ca.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.88.18]
    8. 66 ms 67 ms 45 ms ae-13.a02.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.66.33]
    9. 71 ms 46 ms 42 ms ae-9.r01.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.2.2]
    10. 69 ms 75 ms 53 ms ae-4.r00.scrmca02.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.7.57]
    11. 74 ms 76 ms 69 ms xe-0-1-0-1-1.r00.scrmca02.us.ce.gin.ntt.net [129.250.195.46]
    12. 69 ms 74 ms 71 ms 204.2.229.234
    13. 69 ms 65 ms 69 ms 204.2.229.10

These are numbers I am getting during periods of lag and disconnect. Normally the pings are 9-20 ms . Even so this ping does not seem like it should be high enough to be disconnected from the server. I can provide further information if needed as I would like to solve this issue for myself and all other plays experiencing this issue.

    Okay, so after:
    - Updating my IE settings
    - Setting the game to run on Windows 7 compatibility
    - Setting my router to forward the appropriate ports
    - Updating my graphics card software

The only thing that has worked is running a VPN service on my computer, as a detailed comparison between my computer and my husband's computer revealed that he was running a VPN and I was not.

A Reddit commenter on this same issue blamed the problem on a particular internet node in San Jose. I live in that general area, and when I set my VPN to route through San Francisco, I still got 90002 errors, though fewer than before. But I set my VPN to route through Houston Texas a couple of days ago and haven't gotten a single one since. Coincidence?

I doubt this is due to anything on our own computers or networks.

This is still happening on a regular basis. Always seems to happen after around 2-3 hours of playing. Can we please work in finding the root cause of this issue. It is becoming an extreme pain as it interrupts instances, queues, and overall gameplay.

    Hello RoastyTp.

It is a bit difficult to find the root of the cause as it can come from anywhere. Your trace route doesn't have extremely high latency, but it does have some so oddities. You seem to have this big jump from the first hop to the second, normally, this should only take a few milliseconds. There is also some variances later on in the route where you get different result going to the same node (wavering from 40 ms to 70 ms). It looks like you are connecting fine, but it suggests that there may be some instability along your route. Unfortunately, it's difficult to determine what exactly is causing that instability based on just the trace route itself.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

This is from today, while I was not disconnecting it was periods of large lag. it seems there is something going on once it reaches the data center that is causing this disconnects and latency.

    **Update**

I have replaced every piece of my network and the issue still is happening. I am currently in talks with my ISP (xfinity) to see if there is something along the route taken that is causing the issue but I do not have my hopes up as they will most likely do nothing even if there is an issue. A friend of mine is going to be letting me use a VPN connection in the coming days to see if we can bypass xfininy to remove them from the issue. I will update this topic with the results in the coming days. The only other thing that has not changed is the computer I am playing on. I will look to play on my laptop after I have tested the other conditions to see if it is an issue with my desktop.

    Stay tuned for updates

    **Edit**

I think I should mention that I am in Mountain View, CA connecting to the Primal Data center and the Brynhildr server.

Okay, so I've been 90002-free for about a week now, after my last "success" stopped working the next day.

    I had tried:
    - Forwarding the appropriate ports on my router
    - Updating everything I could find
    - Changing the recommended I.E. settings
    - Running via a VPN, having it route me to Houston just in case the blockage was somewhere in the bay area
    - Reinstalling the game

Then I tried turning off Windows Defender, and discovered that... it wasn't running. It wasn't even working! I couldn't boot it up at all! Attempting to update it just led me to errors. I figured that it was probably some virus I picked up at some point, so I ended up completely wiping my computer and reinstalling my OS, in the process upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

First thing I did after booting up my new OS was install FFXIV and log in. I was disconnected within 20 minutes just standing around Gridania. I wasn't even moving, just fixing my UI. Double-checked that all the IE settings were still at their recommended positions, but it didn't help. Every time I logged in, I couldn't stay connected for long at all.

Tried running my VPN (Windscribe; I've got a lifetime pro account), and got the same. Tried running the VPN but turning off its Firewall, still disconnecting. Tried turning its firewall on but turning OFF Windows Firewall, and this finally seemed to work.

Ran the game idle for hours that day with not a single disconnect. Have been running dungeons and raids since with zero issues.

One day, I forgot to turn on my VPN, but Windows Firewall was still turned off, and I got a 90002 in the middle of crafting something, not long after logging in u_u Switched my VPN back on and again, no disconnects at all.

So TL;DR: it was only the combination of BOTH of these two things that fixed the problem:
    - Turning off Windows 10 built-in Firewall
    - Routing my traffic through a VPN

Hope this is helpful to someone.

    **UPDATE**

Okay after some exhausting effort to pin point the issue it is with great certainty I can say the issue does not reside in my network. I was able to succesfully play for more than 2hrs while using a VPN that removed me from xfinity's network. The problem exsits somewhere on the xfinity network.

I am hoping that they can solve this issue before my free trial of the VPN ends as paying for a VPN to have a constant 2hr conncetion is terrible for an ISP. Anyways hopefully if people are seeing this thread at this point please now that if you followed all of Square Enix's steps of mitigation it most likely resides with your ISP so raise hell with them.
