Hmm... the weapon makes me think of the Berserker Dresssphere from FFX-2. But I don't really remember what that Job's gimmick was.
Berserker's gimmick was... berserk. It was the auto-pilot job. Auto-regen plus all the counterattacks coupled with the speed and power boost from berserk made it the trash killer. Not even sure where you get the connection with the twinblade dealie; Berserker was all beasts and claws.
It have to be a tank right
:^)
Cloud = ff7 = Dark knight
Squall = ff8 = Gun breaker
Zidane = ff9 = ????
My impression I always got of Zidane was that he was a thief/rogue. He had the trademark steal/mug abilities and dual wielded daggers most of the time, but also used polearms. Steiner filled the roll of tank in that game, though I can't remember if he had taunt type abilities. But he definitely had the highest defense.
I think Steiner had Provoke, but don't quote me on that. But aside from that, he was the tankiest of the bunch for sure. I think his Trance quadroupled his attack power the higher or lower his health was (again, don't quote, i can't recall).My impression I always got of Zidane was that he was a thief/rogue. On topic; I couldn't really see anything outside of Theif using that kind of weapon, but their playstyle would probably be too similar to Ninja. Eithe way, I'm fully biased because of my love for IX and I would LOVE to see theif swords get some action ingame.
FFIX's characters all had classic FF jobs assigned to them; Zidane was a Thief, and Steiner was a Knight. Steiner didn't have Provoke, but he had the highest HP and Def of the playable characters, and Trance straight-up tripled his attack power, regardless of health. That being said, he still had some abilities from other jobs, like Darkside from Dark Knight and the Break abilities and Iai Strike from Samurai, so it wasn't strictly a one-to-one deal. Admittedly, I had to look this up on the FF wiki, as it's been a long time since I played IX, and I couldn't remember if Steiner had Provoke or not, either.I think Steiner had Provoke, but don't quote me on that. Personally, I only really see two ways of the double-blade staffs being integrated: either they give them to DRG, as they're not dissimilar enough from a lot of the current lance animations to merit an entirely new job, or they give combining daggers to NIN, somewhat like what Zidane does in Dissidia (wields dual daggers that can combine at the hilt to make a pseudo-staff weapon), and add new abilities that would have animations similar to Zidane's attacks. Maybe drawing upon the Rogue characters again for that?
Personally would imagine a damage dealer that gets by weaving en-spell attacks (imbues their weapons in elemental strikes, and other self enhancing skills) that culminate in some unique enfeebles, picturing a sort of magic monk.
So a sort of selfish Green mage? They'll have buffs and enfeebles to be team supportive but due to the trinity (damage, tank, healer) they'll be a bit more selfish than a stereotypical green mage might be.
