Unable to complete version update. [30419]

    Greetings, Technical Support team.

I'm posting with regards to an error that has gotten worse since 4.5, but is an extension of an error I've been receiving since 4.1.

Upon the release of 4.1, when launching the game from my main Windows account via Steam, I received an "Unable to complete version update. [30419]" error, no matter how many times I attempted to launch the game or log in from the launcher. At this time, creating a new Windows user account and launching the game from there completely resolved the issue, so I did not pursue it further.

However, ever since 4.5's launch in January, the issue has gotten worse. I've begun receiving the error on the new user account I created to circumvent the initial problem, and it's reoccurring in the exact same way every time.

Simply put, a fresh reinstall of the game from Steam will work exactly once. If I use Steam to uninstall the game, reinstall it, and launch it for the first time on the new reinstall, the game will load, patch properly, and allow me to log in. However, should I either close the launcher during that install process, or close the game after logging in and playing, and attempt to open the launcher from Steam again, the following situation occurs, as documented by the screenshots in this Imgur album:

This is 100% replicable on my machine, and even complete reinstalls of Windows and creating new Windows user accounts has not provided any succor for the issue. Naturally, reinstalling the game and downloading many GB of patches every time I wish to play is not a situation I wish to continue.

I have confirmed that the requisite ports are forwarded and there is an exception for FFXIV in my Windows firewall, and I have gone through all of the Internet Explorer setting changes and updates as recommended in previous OF posts regarding the same issue, but none of those measures have helped.

    Please assist!

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

When you reinstalled the game, did you delete the locally saved data (located My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV)? This isn't deleted on a standard reinstall. It may be that one of the download files may be malfunctioning. Find the 'downloads' folder in the locally saved data folder and delete it, then try to log in.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

I have done the reinstall both deleting and not deleting that folder, nothing changes regarding the error upon 2nd launch nor the functioning upon reinstall.

    Thank you for the reply.

The error you are receiving usually occurs when you have problems connecting to the game, What kind of connection do you have? Are you connected through an Ethernet cable or wifi? Also if you have not done so already, please try the following:

    - Check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you:
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

    Hope to see you online!

I am through an Ethernet cable, although switching to Wi-Fi doesn't change anything. I have confirmed that all of the requisite ports are open as well.

I am loathe to believe it is a network problem considering the first connection after an installation proceeds and completes smoothly without issue, and it's only upon subsequent launches that it fails to download. As long as I never close the game, I can play as long as I want.
