The Quest where the Scions find out that the Isle of Val disappeared is "Build on the Stone". It's the last quest of 2.1 and in the quest right before it (The Gifted) we meet Elidibus for the first time and Minfilia asks the Students of Baldesion to look if they have any records on an Ascian in white. Even as far back as 2.0, the Sudents of Baldesion were researching on the nature of primals for the Scions and were regularly sending them reports.

In the scene where the Scions find out about Val's disappearance, they are quick to come to the conclusion that an Ascian had something to do with it since they can think of nothing else that could get through the island's wards. However, the Scions don't actually know what the other Sharlayan's saw at Val until much later. It's not until the end of 2.3 (Through the Maelstrom) that they find out that the Ilse of Val disappeared in a wave of aether so great it was thought to be similar to Ultima.

One of the very messy bits of the Eureka story is Emmerololth's apparent death. In 2.3 (What Little Gods Made Of) he has a speaking line. So... yeah... whatever Galuf thinks he did back in 2.1 to kill Emmerololth didn't stick.

The very first time Eldibus and Lahabrea acknowledge that an Ascian can be killed is in "Before the Dawn", the very last quest of 2.55. And they are... surprised that something that should be eternal (an Ascian) can be killed. It feels very weird that they should be discussing that in 2.55 when an Ascian Overlord supposedly died in 2.1.

It's also possible that Galuf triggered the teleportation because of an Ultima-like attack on Val. They're kinda locked into the fact that Hydaelyn did - in fact - intervene with blessing of Light to save Krile. It seems strange to me that She'd do a full-blessing intervention for a teleport alone, even if it was headed into the Sea. Why not just curve her trajectory through the rivers like She did for Minfilia? But that's pedantic, I guess. They write what they wanna write how they can, lol.

Just throwing this out there... We know that there are lesser Ascians aplenty. Might it be the case that when a vacancy opens up among the greater Ascians, a lesser might ascend to fill it? Perhaps the Emmerololth we saw in 2.3 was not the original Emmerololth, but instead his successor?

Alternatively, I don't recall much of the dialogue from that cutscene, but could it be explained away as a flashback? Do they actually discuss events that would have occurred after the moment Emmerololth supposedly died?

Neither of these, granted, mesh well with Elidibus and Lahabrea's surprise at the death of an Ascian.

Probably the best explanation is that Galuf was wrong about Emmerololth being killed... Yeah, it's a pretty big mess, all right.

Not having played Eureka beyond Anemos... did Emmeroloth "die" when the whole island was in the Lifestream? If so, is time possibly out-of-synch with the physical world, and it actually occurred later in "real time" than it seemed on Val? (ie. a short amount of time on Val equating to several months/patches elsewhere.)

Or is that still messy with Emmeroloth turning up for the council meeting somewhere in the middle of that time period?

    It is still a mess as Emmeroloth would be with the isle of val upon it's disappearance at the end of 2.1 so with Emmeroloth being in the 2.3 cutscene he should be 'dead' we also have the 2.55 cutscene with Lahabrae and Elidibus where they talk like Nabriales's death is the 1st time it has happened to one of the asciens so we have a few scenarios that are possible;
    1. Emmeroloth on the isle of val was a lesser ascien and not the true Emmeroloth,
    2. Emmeroloth was able to teleport out making it look like he died
    3. Emmeroloth teleported out for the 2.3 cutscene then teleported back to Val and died sometime after or
    4. It was a writing snafu and will be rectified later

I want to lean on number 2 most as would require the least amount of rectifying/expanding on allowing all events to stay as cohesive as possible

If you read Galuf's memo post-4.56, Emmerololth's pronoun has been swapped to "her."

@moose it would be interesting to see if they have changed anything to the cinematic of 2.3 now.

It does imply they want to go with Emmerololth offed in Val destruction, so they might change that cutscene down the line

Ah, so they are going the "someone else took over Emmerololth's title" route. I highly doubt they will change the cutscene in 2.3 at all because it was voiced. And that's always way harder to change.

Tbh either that or They simply change the name of emmerololth in 2.3 cutscenes.

Also I don't think it's impossible for black masks to replace red masks in the end
