One of my friends brought to my attention the changes that were made to prohibited behaviors here - http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...6&id=5382&la=1

Namely:

Square Enix strictly prohibits the use of third-party programs or tools – including programs and tools that permit automated or “absentee” play – in Final Fantasy XIV. Accordingly, the following activities are prohibited. The Game Master (GM) may speak to players to investigate and confirm “absentee” play, and if the player continues with this behaviour, contrary to the GM's instructions, this will be treated as “absentee” play and subject to penalties. The following behaviour is also prohibited.

When I read the changes, I shrieked in happiness loud enough to scare my cats! Thank you all so much! As some one active in both the DoL/DoH and housing communities on Balmung, this is huge! I'll never again have to console a friend who lost a house to a character still clicking the placard to buy the house an hour later. I'll never have to worry about the price of current-patch gathered materials dropping to 60 gil apiece because of botting fleets farming them 24/7. This means so much to me and to my ability to support others in the community. I am very grateful! Thank you all so much, and if there's anything I can do to repay you, please let me know!

Namely:

That isn't a new rule, such things have been prohibited since forever. Hasn't stopped people from using such tools anyway in the past.

I know it’s not a new rule, but in the past, botting could only be confirmed and punished by the tools from the Special Task Force, which were imperfect. GMs being able to ban botters means that the more sophisticated ones can finally get their just desserts.
