[Suggestion] Mouse or gamepad? Why not both?

Could PC users get a mode where both gamepad and mouse/keyboard are active at the same time? I like using a gamepad to control my character in the world, but prefer a mouse for inventory menus and crafting. For chat, nothing beats a keyboard.

It doesn’t already do that? I only dabbled with using a controller briefly, but in the short time I messed about with it I know I was definitely also using my mouse for menus and such. I’m probably misunderstanding and/or misremembering, sorry.

It does do this. You turn on cross hotbar and standard hotbar at the same time. Its just harder to play that way imo. I used to do this so that i could see skills on all tabs of the cross hotbar at one time. It bothered me that i could not see things the moment they became available without constant tab flipping.

Now I use a Razer Tartarus Chroma with my hotbars set up in the same shape as the alignment of my keys on my tartarus and then keybind them in the same order. Comes with a joystick-type thing on the side as well. I refuse to play without it.

    Keybinds are:
    [1][2][3][4][CTRL]
    [5][6][7][8][ALT]
    [9][0][-][=][space/jump]
movement with the stick, "confirm/select" above the stick and "back/deselect" below the stick on the big wing looking thing.

This is my setup on screen:

Actually you can, there is an option in the menu that allows you use both. It's the only way I can play AST.

I think this is already a feature offered? I play on PC and use my controller for movement/combat, but mouse for interactions with menus and keyboard for chat. Did that when I was on PS4 as well with a USB Keyboard with a built in touchpad.

It is already offered, though the default settings can make it not seem so. When putting the control scheme to controller mode, it by default hides normal hotbars. When putting it to mouse mode, it by default hides controller hotbar. In both of these modes the other to that set (or all hotbar sets actually) can be made hidden or shown manually.

Other thing is keyboard for commands. On controller scheme, keyboard is by default set to go straight to chat. This can be toggled by a setting. (Can't recall now exactly where, somone better at settings-fu could add it) the biggest difference between the modes is the main menu. Mouse scheme has the little bar of red buttons while controller gets the whole screen thing.

Apart from the main menu, and few map window differences you can use all, controller, mouse and keyboard in both controller schemes. You don't even need to switch between them, the controller works just fine on mouse scheme and vice versa. It's a up to how you set things up, and which mode you want to stay in, the largest difference being the main menu.

Character Configuration -> Control Settings -> General -> Enable direct chat

With that box checked, typing automatically moves focus to the chat box. With it unchecked, typing activates corresponding key-mapped actions unless you manually select the chat box first. (That's only for the main section of the keyboard, though. Function keys as well as extras like Insert, Home, Page Up/Down and so on can activate key-mapped actions in either scheme.)

For a time, I used a strange hybridization that amounted to "game is in keyboard and mouse mode but controls are all gamepad-based", which I achieved by using enabling cross-hotbar on keyboard and mouse mode as others have said. I primarily did this to make certain placement methods for housing easier. I eventually backed out of it when I realized I don't redecorate my house all that often.

I do have my cooldowns on display with a hotbar, though.
