Of course, people don't pay attention. It's hard enough to reset hunts.

Unfortunately, I have been in parties where the main tank queues with their fc/friends and then they're explaining over discord without letting the rest of the alliance know and since the other two tanks were expecting the main tank to pull, we all waited.
I'm sorry but I have little sympathy for those "chicken tanks" who are either to scared to pull a boss or dont want to tank and end up just lingering infront of the boss.
One of the main reasons I mostly play tanks - I cant stand the kind of tank that just doesnt pull.
20 seconds is plenty of time to pull, unless there is a reason to wait.

And I hate when people pull for me as much as the next tank, but there is a difference between annoying impatience - and someone doing the tanks job of pulling, because the tank wouldnt do it.
You don't have to have sympathies for those kinds of tanks, but in turn, if you pull for them, they don't have to have sympathy for you either. I've seen wipes happen because tanks literally refused to get aggro because someone else pulled.

TBH, The "you pull, you tank" stuff doesn't work that well in 24 mans, usually what happens is someone else (like a DPS doing a proper opener) is going to pull hate and a bunch of innocent players (usually not including the guy who pulled because they'll hit it once then stop) will die. If I'm on tank I'm just gonna Provoke, tank it and not try to start drama over something that might have been an accident. I've seen people run into the boss and body pull it because they left auto run on or something. Oh well, Provoke, tank it and life goes on.

Was there a ready check? Was there a countdown? Did anyone die from it?

Bottom line if no body died then it doesnt matter.

It's ok to do it as long as it doesn't end up pulling the mobs in the instance. Lots of different reasons as to why it should / should not happen without knowing more.

Ah, and more on topic - I would never think of pulling early, but I also wouldn't care, as a tank, if the boss was pulled early. Whether we start the fight in 20 seconds or 30 seconds is immaterial (unless someone's explaining the fight), and 20 seconds is certainly log enough to pull.

Sure, they don't need to show "sympathy" for someone that pulls eventually for them (in this case, without intending to do it, because an Astrologian intending to pull would never use Earthly Star for that). But that doesn't change the fact that THEY are failing THEIR job by not tanking when there is nothing stopping them from doing it.

Tanks don't have any special leeway of "Only I can survive tanking a boss, so I can do no bad and me wasting everyones time is acceptable.". If you think that...maybe a healer should stop healing a tank like that next?! Or DPS should stop killing the mobs on such tanks and just go by to the next group?!

This is a party game. Everyone have both the right and DUTY towards other players. Tanks are expected to at the very least pull without wasting time, healers are expected to heal everyone that is wounded and DPS are expected to attack anything that's alive and pulled. If you fail to do one of these tasks as one of these roles then you shouldn't play the role. If you fail to do so because you decided to play to win the "Who's the biggest jackass of the day" award then you should consider playing single player games instead. Or at least only with friends.

I am not disagreeing with you. The boss sure in hell doesn't care who pulls. If an early pull happens, then a tank has got to get in there and snap agro. But it's just a good general rule of thumb to let the MT commence the countdown and pull. However, anyone can initiate a ready check; including said AST before casting Earthly Star.

The AST might not have intended to pull the boss, but he/she definitely was under the impression that the fight would start when nothing gave him or her any indication that it would. Unless the OP left these details out; or thought that by casting ES, it would prompt the MT to pull. Either way, a fault in judgment is still a fault. But the "You pull it, you tank it" mentality doesn't really help anyone here, including an AST trying to optimize their abilities.

For a trash mob pull that 20 seconds is imo way too long and the tanks should of pulled. Sounds like the tanks aren't used to tanking and going extremely slowly everywhere else too. It would be different for a boss without ready checking, but a passed ready check should be a go signal within 5 second.
