Crossworld Market Board and what else it impacts.

Hello all, Aria here again after months away from the forums!

So I wanted to make another post about something very important as this could make or break the game for hundreds of thousands of players if not millions world wide, Crossworld Market Boards due to world visiting.

Market Boards are often community managed, each item on the market board is priced differently between each individual community. This allows for community variation and server identity to remain in tact, however there is more to a community I will be addressing further in later posts.

For now lets focus on the topic at hand, How badly this could impact all systems game wide.

First and foremost lets discuss how much housing usually costs:
    Minimum Pricing:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Fifth-class Plot | Fourth-class Plot | Third-class Plot | Second-class Plot | First-class
    Plot
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Small: 1,488,000 | 1,581,060 | 1,674,000 | 1,767,060 | 1,860,000
    Medium: 7,936,000 | 8,432,000 | 8,928,000 | 9,424,000 | 9,920,000
    Large: 19,840,000 | 21,080,000 | 22,320,000 | 23,560,000 | 24,800,000

These values are not current prices or starting prices, please keep that in mind. They are the lowest possible values a plot could have.

With that in mind, I would discuss the problem with opening up market boards to cross-world visiting buying/selling in relation to housing.

Because each world would be able to buy/sell on other consecutive worlds, the prices of items will massively deflate to numbers that could make housing unobtainable for the vast majority of the community overall. Some items may even dip far below vendor prices, thus making people choose the market board over vendors. This defeats the purpose of having vendors in the first place, which also causes that particular system to break.

When discussing the economy one cannot simply create a crossworld system and allow buying/selling without considering how massive of an impact it could have for the overall health for the game, this could bring a huge gap between those who have crafting at max level and those who don't, forcing those who refuse to craft to start doing that which they dislike just in order to survive in the game.

And thus the housing crisis is solved as only a select few who horde their money will be able to afford one of the few housing plots that are available!

On balmung our prices on the mb are dirt cheap. Houses are still snapped up as soon as the timer is switched off because it's still laughably easy to earn gil in this game.

IIRC I think they look at how much gil is in the system before they release plots, so if there is a drastic change they will probably update the prices. They will definitely be monitoring this and this might be one of the reasons it is being released at the tail end while the game will mostly be in a semi drought state a couple months before the expansion.

I think they also said visitors can only buy and not sell.

I would like to point out that on some servers, 1 item goes for more than a large plot, while on others it's less than a small plot.

Basing "community market trends" around how to get gil for a house is silly.

I have most of my millions from maps and roulettes, not farming the market for stuff to sell.

Not to say I haven't sold things on the market before, but I dont use it to generate my gil amounts normally.

So what makes one item being extortionately priced on one server, when its dirt cheap on another server, good?

You'll just have to turn your attention to items of actual value, instead of dominating your little market via price manipulation.

Yeah, as a normal player using the mb on my server I love finding out that my server's identity is "rp server with a side order of OH GOD THAT'S OVER PRICED!!".

I'm legit thinking of changing servers after browsing the mogboard and seeing just how overly expensive things are on mateus compared to other servers on our dc.
Even more so with eureka being the go to spot for the devs to put some highly wanted rewards and high end content being of lil interest to my server as a whole ( even casual high end content like eureka, that just demands grind and a bit of research).

It feels like the mb is that of a small server even though this is a very large one.

Giving people the option to shop around only hurts those who sell at prices that are too high for what the market is willing to pay (the market now being "the dc" instead of just your server)

This game gives you more than enough ways to casually be able to save up for a decent house, you don't need the power to shake out as much gil from your server's population to buy pretty things.

I have heard that there's a server with a crafting bot problem, that destroys the market of everything it crafts since it crafts a lot and undercuts everything.

I also know of a problem on behemoth where two or three people targeted someone they didn't like, and severely undercut anything this person crafted. For months on end. I think the targeted person quit, as I have not seen them for a year now :/

Market bots and trolls on one server will now affect all servers once cross-server buying is implemented. People would just go to the servers with bots and trolls to buy all the cheap stuff.

If someone is having problems affording a house (assuming there's one available on their world), it sounds like they need to re-evaluate what they're doing to earn gil and what they're spending it on.

The majority of items sold on the MB will not be impacted by world visit because they aren't worth the hassle of switching between worlds to get. It's going to be those rare and/or expensive items that are impacted the most because those will be worth investigating to see if you can get a much better price.

I didn't earn the gil to buy my medium by selling the rare, expensive items. I didn't have access to those items (short of a lucky quick venture) since I didn't do the content that drops those items. I earned it by selling common items that have a steady demand, for the most part the type that few players would bother world hopping to buy because they don't cost that much in the first place. It took a few months to get the gil I needed but I did earn it. Others wiling to put in the effort will be able to do the same regardless of world visit.

Sorry if your idea of paying for a house is getting one Nidhogg scale and selling it for 10 million gil. Yes, world visit is going to screw that up for you. But you'll still be able to sell that and other items to get the gil you need over time.

Not at all. Deflating prices is a GOOD thing for the vast majority of the community. It means they have more disposable income to buy houses, which will making housing MORE affordable.

Only people it could possibly hurt are the people who are already billionaires... and it doesn't hurt them, since there's nothing they can't afford already, and with deflating prices, it would take forever for them to run out of what they've saved so far.
