Perhaps similar to the Xaela using their tribe as their surname?

Overall it's better to need to make up a surname, than have the awkward naming conventions like Plainsfolk and Hellsguard where half of what should function as a single given name ends up in the surname field.

(I feel like the game needs a "nickname" or "preferred name" input for handling some parts of the script. Not everyone is going to address you by the full form of your name. Could be kept client-side since it only needs to be applied to your cutscenes?)

I guess it will depend if of the Clans we'll get.
Vieras from the wood seem to have "nordish" names as we can see in FF12

Fran – sky pirate Balthier's companion.
Jote – Fran's older sister, leader of Eruyt Village.
    Mjrn – Fran's younger sister.
Krjn – member of Clan Centurio.
    Ktjn – Krjn's sister.

Feol on the other hand, as hybrid, are rejected by the Vieras and do not live in the wood so, we could imagine they have names that reflect that aspect and that are related to the place they live in.

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

Ok so, Viera are not chickens or snakes, you can still tell what genitals they have at birth. They just have 0 gender signifiers before puberty suddenly hits (like humans!, except it's way more sudden and delayed for Viera.). Now maybe Viera don't have gendered names as a culture, or maybe they do.

We gonna have to wait to find out.

Considering the reveal featured pale-skinned viera with very atypical hair colors for them(one had black hair, the other had pink hair), I'm going to assume that the Feol aren't present on Hydaelyn and that at least some Rava have opted to move up north to Rak'tika to live with their Veena cousins.

I assumed they were intersex't until puberty. With their internal reproductive organs not having external definition. Which, would lead to one hell of a growth spurt, but I figured it fit the lore and culture nicely.

To be personally honest, I hope the Veira naming convention is Scandinavian in origin, I mean Fran spoke with a very very pretty Icelandic accent so here's hoping that keepsup with the playable race.

The First's Viera/Viis might be different just because of the cultural drift, but they've adhered to Ivalician lore tightly enough for them otherwise that I'd be surprised if they don't stick to the Scandinavian/Icelandic naming and accents. I also wouldn't be surprised if any of Fran/Jote/Mjrn's VAs show up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Nordic/Islandic aspect already taken by the Roegadyn/Seawolf? (Going by the -syn the name generator gives you.)

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

The Roegadyn/Seawolf names are closer to German (with it's habit of mashing words together) then Icelandic. Culturally, the Seawolves are based on the Norse though. The Viera culture definetly is not.
