Viera naming convention

I was wondering if there was any information on the Viera naming convention yet? i love the write ups that Gildrein did for the other races as they were extremely helpful in getting a lore accurate name. I'm just trying to think if i can get a race accurate bunny girl name ready for when the expansion drops as for me the name is something that is almost as important as any other aspect of character creation.

They probably wont do it without admitting the existance, or absence of males.

Would be nice if they give us naming lore for males even if it turns out we're not getting them as playable.

For what it's worth, I believe males and females would have very similar or the same naming conventions, what with being indistiguishable until the age of 13. There's always the possibility that males change their names when they leave the village or are assigned a new one by the one who takes them away, of course...

There's also the possibility, that because they live in isolation, that they don't actually need names.

I mean, when you live all on your own and rarely see another member of your species... Who's gonna be using your name?

I love how with every thread about viera that pops up, males are mentioned. SE, take note! Give us what we want! Well...most of us anyway. That said, I imagine if they go off of FF12, their names would be short, one or two syllable words with exotic pronunciation and spelling. (Jote = Yo-Tay, Mjrn = Mee-Yern, etc.) It would be cool to see what the male names would be like as well. I bet they'd be the same. But...well...ya know...SE would NEED TO ADD THEM. Come on SE! You know what needs to be done. Alright I'm done. They ain't reading this mess.

As much as I want them to, adding males or not isn't relevant in this case. Whether they are officially implemented as characters or not, they still canonically exist, and people are going to be fanficcing off those concept art images if nothing else. If I was doing that then I'd definitely still want to get their names right!

That said, WhiteArchmage is probably correct in guessing that they wouldn't actually have gendered names if their gender can't be recognised at birth - unless there was some kind of tradition where they don't actually get names until they mature, or child-names aren't carried into adulthood, or something like that.

Oh, I totally agree it's not relevant here. I just wanted to mention it because that's how thirsty I am for them. You raise a good point about them not having gendered names. And honestly, excepting a few, most of them seem fitting for either male or female characters.

In FFXII, Viera have short two-syllable names that have a very Icelandic or Norse feel to them. Incidentally, Norse is where the pronunciation of Viera names comes from; "j" is pronounced like "y" in that language. I could easily see FFXIV Vieras having a similar naming scheme.

What will be interesting is what FFXIV will do with the last/family name. As far as I am aware, Viera in FFXII don't have last/family names and only have given names. I am looking forwards to how FFXIV will handle that.
