Why not both?
A healer that could heal others by dealing damage.

I kinda thought that maybe they were hinting at AST getting some of the geomancer abilities this coming expansion since they seem to be sort of related. AST being the sky/stars and GEO being the land/earth. We'll see though.
Yeah recently the photon/white hole/everything is on fire for a bit then nothing for a while is kinda bland.
One of the most fun times I've had healing in this game was in a4s. The big Jagd doll that uses Wirbelwind. It cuts everyone's MP to near nil. Admittedly it was supposed to function as sort of a soft enrage, but people kinda just let it go off since you could use that dps time to hit the boss instead and the add just kinda kills itself.
Those 10 or so seconds where you had almost no resources and having to actually think and decide who to heal with the limited resources was kinda fun. Having to prep for it so you could keep the party afloat during it when you bottomed out is more engaging to me instead of just smashing 2 buttons and everyone is full HP then going back to DPS.
Honestly I think I've had more trouble healing wow leveling dungeons on expansion release than current savage fights. Savage fights for me just mostly end up as an equation of how little healing/how much risk do I want to take to increase the amount of DPS I can do without causing a wipe. Since I have a more cautious gameplay style that is really boring and unrewarding to me.
Uh, When I played DNC in FFXI it was a support DPS that could heal itself with TP or buff the party with Haste Samba, etc. but it was still a DPS. Its only real issue when it came to healing was if you were fighting undead, then Drain Samba was effectively useless. So while it could heal the pants off of anything, it still did decent damage. It was more a support DPS though...
I'd be totally cool with it reprising that role again!

Bluefever was the gamefaqs leaker who leaked Gunbreaker, Blue Mage, Alphascape bosses, Viera, etc. He said the there would be 2 new jobs in 5.0: Gunblade and Dancer. He said Dancer was a healer. Given that he's been 95% accurate so far (his only inaccuracy was timing of reveals and said the final boss of Alphascape would be "Adam and Eve", it's safe to say Dancer will be a healer.
The lines between Healer, DPS, Tank were blurred in XI and I would be wary to categorize any job as such except for PLD and WHM. Technically the only tank jobs in the game recognized by SE were Paladin and Warrior. Yes, SAM had some enmity and Third Eye, but they had no means to heal or reduce damage substantially. WAR was a tank for the first 30 levels or so, but after that their prowess in tanking diminished and their DPS became center stage. Using WAR to tank endgame bosses was a bad idea as WAR had no mitigative cooldowns except Defender, which boosted DEFENSE by 25%, while Paladin had cooldowns that directly reduced damage %, as well as shield. As for healer, WHM is the only full healer. While RDM, SCH had Cure IV, they didn't have Cure V or Cure VI so their healing power was awful in any kind of raid or boss fight. They were backup/secondary healers at best.
DNC was a hybrid job. At low-mid levels they were Tank/Healer/DPS/Debuffer, depending on how they used their abilities. They could expend stacks of "Finishing Move" to use a Flourish to Provoke the target and had high evasion and AGI, and could spend TP to heal themselves or their target. Conversely, they could spend Finishing Move stacks to use Flourishes that dealt damage or set the enemy up for a skillchain or enhanced their next weapon skill's damage. I would say they could fit a wide variety of roles as they could give the party a passive haste buff/lifedrain buff, tanked, debuffed the target's def/evasion, could stun, Provoke, heal, remove statues ailments, etc.
I dont recall him saying it was a healer. I've gone through the reddit thread that discussed his leaks and didnt see any mention of that in the "pastebin" data from gamefaqs?Bluefever was the gamefaqs leaker who leaked Gunbreaker, Blue Mage, Alphascape bosses, Viera, etc. He said the there would be 2 new jobs in 5.0: Gunblade and Dancer. You're right he didn't say it was a healer, I am mistaken. However, SE decided GNB should be a tank because there are 3 tanks and 4 melee DPS. Conversely, if that's the case, it would also make sense that because there are 3 healers and 5 ranged DPS, the second new job would be a healer. Also, we just got 2 DPS last Expansion.
Technically there are more branches/types of jobs than people seem to care about. Yes there are more DPS than tanks and heals for good reason, but they are broken down into smaller types. Tanks: PLD, DRK, WAR, [GUN]
Heals: WHM, AST, SCH
Melee DPS: NIN, SAM, MNK, DRG
Physical Ranged DPS: MCH, BRD
Caster DPS: BLM, RDM, SMN, [BLU]
So really if anything... Physical ranged DPS deserve the love. Not heals, tanks, etc lol
But whatever, it really doesnt matter. We can argue what DNC is going to be until the last fanfest XD
I dont mind either way, it can be a tank for all I care... I just want to play it![]()

It could be "coincidence" but did the clothing designer at fanfest not show her Dancer outfit designs? She could have shown other designs you know.
I missed most of the livestream so i was just going by what Mr. Happy said about her showing Dancer clothing
